I have a bad diode that is causing the GEN light to stay on after the key is off and removed from the ignition.

If anyone has a source for rebuild kits for this I would appreciate it.

There's no such thing as a "rebuild kit" for an alternator. Rebuilding an alternator is not something that can be done at the owner/small shop level. There are alternator parts outlets that list various parts
for the Bosch alternators used in aircooled VW's, such as http://www.aspwholesale.com/index.php. Regulators and brush assemblies for the Bosch Al-82 are sometimes available from a few
VW parts suppliers. They are not exactly cheap.

Do not buy an AL-82 regulator from CIP1 (if they still list it), as is typical for CIP1, it is a piece of bogus crap. As far as I can tell, genuine
Bosch (Brazil) regulators are still available.

the stuff is out there,Bosch and the rebuilders control it to keep you from doing it at home..kick your search up a notch,check your local Bosch vendor too..sometimes schmoozing a parts guy pays off.

Appart from the diode , it is not too hard to replace the bearings, and clean things up. I put some NSK ones in with higher rateings than the originals.
