Root, My 2002 when I bought it, it had 8000 km. It’s always been noisy in 2nd & 4th.
I switched to a Synthetic gear oil, which helped a little. I just figured I would just drive it until it got worse, it never did. I have over 100,000 km on it now, no better, no worse. I figured I would get a German core to rebuild. Now at this point, who knows when.

Hi Sambas,

I’ve been getting different information from different sources and need some help. I need new fuel injectors for my 1995 1600i. What’s the part number? Where can I get them. I think I see one in the previous post, but the part number isn’t legible.

What other VW/Audi/etc. models used the same injectors? (Especially helpful for any North American VAG vehicles.)
Thanks

I submitted pics of my car and story to Hot VWs last November, I'm quite psyched to see it in the June 2025 Readers Showcase :) .

Interesting to see how they cropped the photos (which I expected) and edited the comments that I sent (not too much).

Nice! Save that issue when you get it for sure!

Some very neat pictures! Been driving my Bug more and more with the nicer weather and good transmission. Oddly, never see another Bug on the road when I'm out in mine.

Hi everyone! I've only gotten through about half the posts trying to find more information...I bought a 2004 Mexico Beetle about 4 weeks ago. I've cleaned most of it up and fixed some issues, one of which I found out about on here. Never would have guessed that one wire over the dog house could do that, luckily it hadn't worn through yet. The previous owner disconnected the stereo since he said that it was draining the battery overnight. I've bought a new replacement radio just to have some type of tunes while driving but I can't seem to find which color wires are which on this bug. They don't match what I've found online. Heck even the connector doesn't seem to exist on the installer's computer archive I went to and google only turns up American color wiring. Seems american VW uses normal colors and a dual ISO connector from OEM all they way into the 80s, but the one I have is a 14 pin single with pinks/browns/pastel colors. It has to be OEM since I can't find any splices or evidence of tampering. Would any of you happen to know what female plug I can use to adapt this OEM 14 pin plug to a newer two separate plugs?

The stereo thing may be a tough one. I searched for some adapters various years VW's and none seemed to match yours. I don't like cutting into factory wires, but this might be a situation you have to.

You might be able to reach out to Antonio. He can get almost any part for our Mexi-Bugs.

Antonio said its a special order part from Clarion...but it would cost me more than the stereo to get it...guess I'm going to have to just replace it with a more modern set.

so anyone know what the wire codes are for this?

New radio has black, white, green, yellow...normal colors but the Mexi beetle has pinks, browns, pastels.

I found this 16 Pin Clarion layout, and schematics with the pin-outs for the connector (Maybe might help)

Check your wire colours against the schematic. If they match, a cheaper, non-cut, option might be to order the pigtails and make your own adapter.

Another question... I had to adjust the throttle cable since the original broke and was replaced by previous owner. However I noticed it didn't have a tube through the doghouse. It has little rubber grommets though. Is that normal or should I buy a new one from american beetle?

Mine has the tube.

Finally, after 180.000 km ( 112.000 miles), the alternator of my 1600i mexi broke down. Low voltage (between 11.5-12v) or directly it don´t charge the batt. Last week, the engine stopped driving on the highway becouse the battery died. It started with the help of a compact lithium starter and then, I was able to continue driving to home with out any troubles.

Bosch reference is 9 120 080 061 (14V 51A) . Is it the same of regular/carburetted Bugs?
I have an old alternator from a T2 Bus (1.6 AD) but is 9 120 080 122 (AL82N)

Having trouble determining which relays are what in a 95 Mexican beetle. Specifically the headline HB/LB relay. Help?

There is no relay, it's just the switch in the column that selects.

Success! I switched out the clarion radio plug to a ISO plug and I now have a working radio. Took her out for a cruise and really enjoyed it. :D

Now I have a question....seems silly but what mpg are you all getting for driving 60mph? My cruise was about 40-50 miles but it went through about 1/4 of a tank. Is that normal? I could feel the air resistance increase as I passed 45mph on the pedal but I didn't think it aero drag was that bad of an issue. Realistically, how many miles should I expect for a full tank? I don't want to go on a long trip and run out of gas in the middle of no where. All my VW friends have carbs so they don't quite equate to the same thing.
