Does the 04 mexico beetle use the 60-70 throwout bearing or the 70-79 one?

Since it's swing axle..60-70 one right? or was there a mix mash of parts?

No, it uses the 71 and later style clutch and throw-out bearing.

Well, finally had time to work on the clutch and alternator. Friends have been helping and we've run into a problem.
1. The OEM alt pulley doesn't fit the new alternator since it has the fins. Hopefully a normal one will be okay. It's on order.

2. See clutch pic. New clutch has insert that old one( silver) doesn't. However, considering how I couldn't get the engagement point to go below the very top 3rd of travel of the pedal, I'm thinking maybe that's why? Loosened the clutch nut and the clutch would slip, tighten and it would grab more but the engagement point wouldn't go down very much. Most I got it to lower was maybe 1/4 of the way from the top of pedal stroke. All my friend's bugs clutch engages at the very bottom of the pedal stroke. old clutch and new clutch seem to be about the same thickness though, but there was a ton of black dust inside and some oil at the bottom. also, those fingers I'm guessing here, should not jet out past the plate right? Or is that normal? Should I leave that ring on there or take it off? If so, how? seems to be clamped on.

3. fuel lines are pretty shot so got some new stuff...5/8 seemed the closest size.

4. Geez this thing is a pain to take apart compared to cars with carbs. :P
I'm dreading the reinstall.

some pics from summer time included.

woohoo! She's alive after two days of work and cleaning, no more engine lights or battery lights...collar didn't fit over the sleeve so I took it off. Changed out transmission mounts, had to switch to a non finned pulley since the OEM one didnt fit the new alternator. All I can say is that the new clutch engage instantly at the bottom of the pedal and it grabs hard! LOL it was unexpected. She scoots now. Big thanks to all my Beetle buddies too! Couldn't have done it without them and their special tools. :D

Nice picture, love the green with the fogged field in the background. I need to drive my Bug. It's been a while.
