View original topic: UPS on Crank!

I wandered over to the McMaster website to order some soundproofing for my ghia yesterday morning about 11am and the UPS guy wheels it in at 9:30 this morning! Almost 700 miles overnight and it came UPS ground. Normally that would be 2-3 days minimum.

Those boys must be humping some hellish hours to get this stuff thru the system by Christmas.

McMaster Carr never ceases to amaze me.
My office is 15 miles from their warehouse.
If I order something from them before 1:00 pm, I get it THE SAME FRICKIN' DAY on their own truck.
I'm talking a box of hardware for $7.50 plus $4.00 shipping, for example.
How do they do it?

i just ordered some hazet stuff from new york. ordered friday morning, shipped friday afternoon, arrived today, thursday. 4 business days? amazing. usually it's 5 minimum, more often 7.
must be the holiday insanity!

Hazetguy-- did you see the eBay auction that just ended for the valve adjusting tool? Seller had a buy it now of $80, but no one went for it. The auction brought $160. Then, like 15 minutes after the auction ended, he listed another one for the same $80 buy it now.

yeah, saw that and was amazed. i know who that seller is, and if he has one, he usually has many more. i think the glitz of the first NOS one made people go crazy, then people realized it was not such a scarce commodity.
i (personally) would never ever pay that much, not even $80. $40 for me would be a stretch.

I bid $10.

I bid $20 on the new one.

Yes, with that seller, if he has one, he usually has 20-30 of them.

"US $122.50 " Holy Cow! (no offence to any Hindu) lol

I thought it was kind of dope slap to the buyer to wheel around and list another one with a "buy it now" just minutes after he bought his.

Anyone actually use one of those? Do they save time and/or effort?

I ordered some stuff from CB performnace on the 17th in the morning. I got the package on my door step the morning of the 19th. and that was with ground. UPS really is bustin ass.

When I ship I use FedEx ground because I've found them to be cheaper and more efficient than UPS. FedEx freight, though, is freaking expensive! I'm curious about that adjusting tool as well.

Your thinking will change on this, I am sure of it.

Sorry, but I have two years of copies of shipping invoices and nary a problem. My biggest concern is that I'm going to try to use Greyhound to ship a hood.
