Just fitted 27x8.5x14 General Grabber ATx onto some stock rims on my 84 tin top with stock suspension.

Looking under the car after about 30 miles with some off road, there doesn’t seem to be any rubbing at all of the upper control arm, but it’s close, at about 1cm of clearance.

well my 2 "spare" tires finally came in, they got misdirected from PA to LA California on their way to NY..

but they look good and stout.. 195r14 are about 26.3in and my 205/70/15 are 26.2in so good for a spare tire..

though I might order 4more for a future project van at this price it's tough to beat.

Looks good 8)

Any noticeable loss in power due to the increased tire height? (I'm assuming you still have the 1.9 WBX in there).

I'm still trying to decide on tires for my '85 - with Carat lowering springs.

Thanks

Thanks! Yep have the 1.9, with about 130k miles, and yes unfortunately I did notice a drop in acceleration And power. I live near a smallish pass, and what used to be a 4th gear climb until just the very top, is now a 4th to 3rd gear half way up. Prior tires were 185r14 Yokohama supervans, which were very good from my experience of about 30k miles, but they didn’t fit my needs (Mojave dirt roads/camping, with dirt bikes in the back of a small trailer). Here’s the van hauling a BSA last year.

Planning to do the 16" wheel/tire (Tiguan steel wheels) upgrade and going with 215/65R16's. Looking at 3 different models of Continental tires for my 91 westy. My choices are Conti Vanco2, Conti Vancontact 4 season and Conti 4x4 contact. The reason I'm choosing Continental over other brands is cause I get them for darn near cost $.
Just seeing if anyone has run any of the above 3 types and has any feedback or recommendations on which one of these might be best suited for a Westy.

Interesting seller, 0 feedback yet, as they just opened the account about 2 weeks ago. Quick google search and nothing came up for "best bargain tires" as a seller to website. Anyone want to make the first purchase? :P

I am ready to order some new rubber and I am on the fence with two options. Does anyone have real experience with either of these two?

I'm looking at 215/65/16 for either to go on MB C230 rims.

Honestly, most of my driving will be around town and highway driving, which has me leaning toward the Falkens.

Was in between the two as well. Go back a page to 44 and you can see I went with the Toyo's in the end. Don't regret it for one second. Great tire, tons of tread, I don't notice HWY/Freeway noise. The only time I hear them is coming to a stop with the windows down, and even then I have to really be listening for it.

Great finds! (And feedback.) I didn’t see either of these when I was searching for 215/65 or /60-16’s last year on TireRack and other sites.

I ended up buying the Falkens and will mount them in the next week. I'll report back in a month or so on my initial thoughts.

How is it that this thread has so little on the Michelin CrossClimate tires?

There is another thread that's dedicated (more or less) the Michelin Aglis CrossClimate, which is a great tire choice, near as I can tell. But it is not available in the 215/60r16 size. That leaves them as a good option for those of you who have 15" wheels, but I have 16's.

That's led me to the CrossClimate ii and the CrossClimate Plus. While I have no clue what the differences are between these variants of the CrossClimate tire, I can tell from photos that they are decidedly different from the Agilis CrossClimate.

Be that as it may, the 'normal' CrossClimate tires get great reviews on TireRack and they come with an XL/99 load rating in the 215/60r16 size. That would seem to make them a great choice for my CLKs.

Has anyone tried these tires? To be clear, I’m wondering about CrossClimates-ii and CrossClimate-plus, not the Agilis Crossclimates.

Cheers!

I’m putting the 205/65/15 Aglis Cross Climates on soon. They have 100 load rating and have great reviews, as mentioned.
I’ll give a report after I get a few miles on them.
