Hey Guys,

Interested to see a good picture or video of a VW Beetle painted in Silver Granite L322.

My painter is having a tough time getting the mixture. Is there a car in today's day that is close to Silver Granite? We could just go with a modern code maybe.

It looks like a great color, but my google searches for pictures are coming up skewed.

Hope to hear from ya,

Chris

hmmmm, mid-55 only cabrio only color. IF nobody can offer an example for matching AND IF glasurits color online data comes up empty, maybe you and/or your paint guy can decipher the old recipes if you haven't already tried. For example, from the old recipes below. Although they look a lot different on the chart, the actual formula for the codes on the page do have some similarities & there is a code on that site to determine what the ingredient codes are. Looks like a bit of a cross between polar silver & dolphin gray (light and/or dark). Often VW made extremely subtle shade variations between years. Hopefully, there is one car out there that pops for you to match to. EDIT - see that it doesn't appear in Glasurit's database for any year or make. The paint code below consists of 38% aluminum (90), 30% black (40), 30% blue (32), & 2% white (80). Worst case, it seems you should be able to cross this with other available colors such as Polar Silver & Dolphin Grey to figure this out in a modern formulation. Interested to see what this looks like.

Wow so there is a lil blue in it, 30% is a pretty good chunk of blue. hmmm. So maybe it is more of a dark slate/blue gray?

I was almost thinking it was like the new Porsche color of Altas Gray.
Some angles it looks more gray, like this one

and some angles it looks more slate blue, like this one

I have a swatch of it, up close it looks more blueish. Maybe it can pass as silver granite?

I recently painted my Jan 55 rag L322.....such a bad ass super rare Colour!

it's very similar to anthracite but with a bit o metallic. very slate like and kinda blueish? John Jones of KCW hooked me up with a spray out he scanned from a L322 55 vert he did a couple years back.

I've yet to have it out under the sun but it definitely changes!!!!

i have the spray out that JJ gave me but I'd like to hang onto it.....i think he also sent sent me the mix in duponts chroma line......I'll see see if i can dig up that message for ya. There is absolutely zero chance you will get anywhere close to to an accurate match off of a pic posted on the net!

and for the record this was an extremely hard color for my paint shop to match off off the scan! took over 6 tries

few more samples

No worries bro! have fun with it!!

and thanks for the props....im super stoked with how it has played out so far! The removeable apron is is the absolute best body mod you can do with with a car that has the motor in and out all the time! I don't know why some guys get cranked about it, be dead easy to put back to stock, nothing was cut and all and all that would be needed would be to either panel bond the flange back together or spot weld and touch up paint! only other thing on the body not factory is the 8 holes in package tray for roll bar

I see you say this is a '55 only Convertible color.

I noticed I don't have any pre-57 Convertible colors listed on the site here.
If anyone has a listing, please PM or email me so I can get them added.
Thank you.

Wolfsburgwest.com has the vert codes and swatches.

Not mine and I can't remember if he did or not but read the thread....If that isn't original paint I don't know what the fuck is?

Chris, the bottom vert looks like Stratos Silver to me...looking at the rear fender. Stratos Silver changes color so much depending on lighting

True, but dolomite was also a color that year... so it could be that too.

I trust john knew what he had...I've read others comments about how very close it should be to anthracite but metallic. ...that this is, same tones

Wiggy Sun Feb 23, 2014 8:44 am

That is a sweet color!

LM32 30% blue            LM70    4.2 red brown       LM61    6.4  ochre
LM80   2% white          LM80    1.6 white           LM70    * *  Red Brown
