O.K. Just found a 1987 Convertible rabbit that has been sitting in storage for the last 7 years. The guy can't remember it's condition when it was put away, So I'm asking for some solid advise about what to do to get it running. It does have a automatic tranny. What would you guys do? I know it needs half shafts

I would start by changing all the fluids and doing the normal tune-up stuff, then it should be at least runable and you can better see what you are dealing with. Pay special attention to products that tend to degrade over time such as tires, hoses, etc. You should also inspect thoroughly for signs of vermin. They love to make nests and chew wires. Let us know what you find.

A good idea is to get both the Robert Bentley and Haynes repair books, they will be a big help in some areas, and very little in others.
Did you buy the car yet ? Will it be a keeper , or a fix & sell project ?
Beware of Vw automatics, they don't hold up as well as a standard. Good luck in your barn find..... :!:

I have a 90 Cabriolet and absolutely love it. I have seen A-1 cabriolets with VR6 swaps and they are sick!!! It takes lots of time, reiniforcement, and rigging (safely). The G60 supercharged Corrado although fast, does have it's negatives (don't seem to be reliable and the supercharger failure is high). For me personally, I am waiting for my stock digifant 4 banger to keel over and will quickly drop a 16v gti motor in (same motormounts). This swap is simple, but with digifant, the computer is different. You should have CIS injection in an 87 though.
