I've got two, twice the trouble. Both 80s. "Poke' Van" (ivory) and Vitiglio.
Swapping both to Subarus means I have two engines for sale if you need one, or two!

"Vanessa" still rollin around PNW above the 49th parallel. All stock except the 009 dist. installed by previous owner and a bus muffler after going thru too many aftermarket van mufflers. Anyone in BC got a good paint guy? Shes finally starting to show some rust that I want to get taken care of before its too late. |

I've had my 1980 Westy since Oct 17 1980! Amazing how i remember that date and forget my own kids birthdays! 38 yrs of memories, my kids grew up camping in it, the boys all had a time of ownership, and now i drive it just about every day. Took my 8 yr old granddaughter and my son camping a few weeks ago. First trip in way to many yrs. Im hoping that the reliability allows me to go further and further, making more memories..

I have correct van mufflers and a few distributors if you wanna get together, I’m only 2 hours south of Vancouver. I also have a body and paint guy in Arlington, good VW guy, or I can try and get in touch with my Canadian VW mechanic buddies and see who they use on their cars...which aren’t shabby to say the least ;) |

I am actually very happy with the bus muffler. Good longevity in it. Everything connects correctly to make it work (just added a 2" solid space between muffler and heater box joints to avoid contact with the ducting tubes. Good availability and fair price point. (ps looking to replace those tubes too!)
What do you have for dist? Interested in maybe putting a 034 SVDA dizzy on instead if you have one thats been rebuilt.
Gladly take any contacts you may have for body/paint work in any area :) Thanks!!
Oh ya and I guess she deserves to be shown off a bit ;)

Here is my new 1980 Westy. It has only 58k miles and is all original. I found it on the samba after borrowing a friend's Eurovan for a weekend and wanting to get back into Westy camping a decade after selling my 1972 bay window. The 1980 is a nice compromise with the authenticity and simplicity of the air cooled engine and the sophistication of fuel injection and the improved chassis.

Wow, I really like the jealousie windows. Not very often seen on the Vanagons. |
