Demos Camshaft?
Hello,
After researching for ages planning for a type 4 bus rebuild, I had decided to go with either a web cam or a raby cam. I was under the impression from numerous forums, etc. that raby's cams were ground by web camshafts.
I was just told that the cam I'd decided to buy, raby 9590, is a Demos Cam.
Just curious if anyone has any experience or knowledge of this company...especially compared to Web Cams as I was expecting the Raby cam to be a Web Cam as in the past.
Thanks! |

Keep in mind that the camshaft has to work well withthe other parts of the valve train to make it a nice package.
Have the heads been modified?
What are you using for lifters and pushrods? |

Thanks for the thoughts.
I realize it all has to work well together.
I got a deal on some Hoffman heads (new AMC reworked) with larger valves.
In the end my goal is not a camper special, but something in that direction...
lifters will be from the same place as cam.
I'm more curious about the company at this point as Web Cam has a great reputation and figured I'd like to go to them if possible... |

If Price is any indicator of quality then the Web-Cam brand would be a good choice! Web Cam Hydraulic Lifters, Type 4 Engines. |

That would be www.demoscams.com and he is a cam grinder in Georgia
Similar to what we have on the west coast as a well know grinder
www.elgincams.com very well known for 356 camshafts and quite a few others. |

Thanks!
I did some searching also and just wanted to know if there was any vw-world knowledge or experience with this grinder. I'm not worried...just figure it's always worth a post to ask given all of the aftermarket companies to sort through for given parts. |

Keep in mind that the Type 4 Store is no longer a Raby company.
I may have designed the combinations and components, but they are no longer known as Raby parts. I have stayed on as a developmental consultant for LN Engineering, but that's all. |

Cam grinders can re-produce any cam profile that is on the market and it would appear that is what has happened with the Raby 9550 and others. |

I like the CB Performance cams personally. Have not had personal experience with Web Cams but have heard good things.

When the T4 Store was purchased 64 cam designs were part of the deal.
Of those about 1/2 were cams that Web had worked with us on and only sold to us, the other 1/2 were my own designs where we created a master that could be ground by anyone, from scratch as we paid to have the profile developed and the master made, or I'd do it myself. A good example of this is all my roller cam profiles hat were developed in house, here.
That said, I reviewed the cam offerings listed on the T4Store and found many Type Os and descrepancies that I have already notified LN about. They are still learning all these parts and getting things up and going in Illinois, and I have been helping them straighten it all out. |
