are there many differences between a 63 and 64? Do they overlap with early 64s being more like 63s? I was looking at a 1964 yesterday and when I got home and was looking in a book I had it seemed more like the 63 pictured. Guy said it was an early 64. |

63 and 64 differences are mainly a few improvements and asthetics..
Good years either way.
Some highlights.. (not all)
Early 64
Peanut front turn signal lights.
Straight decklid center rib stamping (no flare) with small license lamp.

1964 had a mid year change of the inspection plate orientation on the drivers side, beleived to change sometime around Feb 1964.
My unofficial guess at this time:
The access plate orientation, changed at or soon after, the stering box noted change in Progressive Refinements, at Chassis number 6147942 Feb 1964 for Exports..
Per refinements...
Roller Steering: Now: Radius of the steering worm stop in the steering gear housing 2.5mm, Fomerly 3mm.
Now: housing with a distinguishing mark 74" cast in.
Its about the only explained change in that related area that makes some sense.
Known February 1964
Known March 1964

Don't forget that 1965 model cars started production in August of 1964..... So yes it is a 1965 model year car but the change was introduced in 1964. |

yeah the model year thing makes it a bit more confusing. Wonder if they were like Ford with the model A and used items up while building and you could see some things out of place on early model year cars. |

The '64 gurus will correct me, but didn't the rims change to basic black/white two tone vs. all the color matching/coordinating colors from before?
Also, technically, since the turn signals changed- I imagine front fenders would have been stamped/updated too. A difference probably easily recognized when naked. |

My 64 113 is Sept 26 1963 production and still uses the peanut style front turn signal.
Also the Mexican for sure and possibly the Brazilian beetle uses the 58-64 body through 1967 model year. |
