I have a '62 bug with a '73 engine that has been worked on with dual carbs (new, 6 months or so). After I've been driving a while, engine hotter, she races. Linkage for carbs are new and work fine, I keep linkage lubricated with silicone spray, and the return spring is new and strong. I stop and open the hatch, seems that the cable between peddle and linkage is hung up a little (enough) to hold carbs open. I give it a little tug and that releases linkage back to idle. I adjusted the cable to remove extra tension, left about 1/8th" play or so, but problem remains. Pedal (actually more of a roller) and spring inside car are fine, silicon spray and no grime. Car has new pans and rubber floor mat, clean as new around the pedal assembly. Believe I need a new cable. Easy to replace? Any tricks or advice? Thanks

Little more info - what linkage? Reason that I am asking is that I THOUGHT the cable was being goofy, but my Scat linkage was the issue. Screw head was getting hung up on the brace.

What you do it disconnect the cable at the linkage and make 100% sure that you don't have anything catching. Look it over real carefully. Then you double check what you have at the gas pedal - make sure that there is no crud stuck around the pedal. THEN also look at how you cable is coming into the tube through the fan shroud.

If you have a bowden tube between the chassis and the shroud tube - check it to make sure its not excessively bent and the the cable is not chewing through it anywhere.

Replacing the cable is not a big deal, (just pull the old one - grease a new one and slide it in the tube. But its very possible that you have something else going on as well.
