Looking at my 69 westy engine tonight, as i am buying a new motor for mine. I was curious on the id, and just looked.. FU? Iwent and looked but cant find anything.. can anyone help

Well, I remember hearing that sometimes engines failed the final inspection and were replaced, and those engines that didn't pass inspection were then overhauled and supplied to dealers as warranty replacements. "Factory Overhauled" is "ins Fabrik überholt" in German so maybe the FU stands for that, or maybe it really stands for "FU". :)
I have no real facts to back that up but I do remember hearing this some years ago.
But seriously- no doubt that that number is a restamping so it would indicate a replacement of some sort. |
