I have been thinking about this for a long time, im sure someone
Has done it already.

I want to build a high output compressor using a beetle engine,
My idea involves the two front piston/cylinders, rears will be
Taking out and using just the cylinders to help holding the heads
. Using a electric motor hook to the pulley to run the monster.

Any input is greatly appreciated even if us only to chew my rear end.

Could be done but not very practical. A co called 'Dunrite'or something like that in So Carolina makes A turn key with 2 cyls 4 pwr & 2 large cyls with modded pistons(did use stock earlier) 4 compressor function. Big diff is a special grind cam with double lobes 4 comp pistons, lobes 180 each other which made each stroke a compression stroke,I bought a cam awhile back to build me one but never really needed it, was intended to sand blast & 94's 4 compressor 2 cyls. This co also sold kits to convert an eng .

They ran 009 distributors. :shock:

I have worked on the ones that were built as air compressors. Run on 2 cyl. compress on 2 cylinders. Those did have a different cam.
My brother just rebuilt one for a portable sawmill. He told me, that it had no cooling tin. The company that built the unit is still in business. He called them, and the told him that is the way that it was designed.

you have any pics russ? i have one like that but with cooling tin, possibly it's completely different to your US designed units. :?

those are great ideas, i was thinking in powering the engine/compressor with a electric motor, to make it simple, removing the rear pistons to help the electric motor with the moving mass, not flywheel neither :-) no oil cooler and so on, yes oil pump to help with lubrication.

Although the VolksAir is a neat ideal, you would be far better off buying a standard air compressor with a gas engine.
