I have searched and found some answers but not as to an actual part I am searching for.
So I recently rewired my 56 with a new harness from wiring works and changed it to 12v. The car uses bullet turn signals up front and snow flakes out back. My issues is once I hook up the turn signal wire (split from the output side of the relay) the speedo indication remains on constant at half intensity when the turn signal is in the off (center) position
I have used a standard off the shelf 2 contact relay in this car as well as my 65 bug and understand that a grounded relay will be better when it comes to latency on initial flash of exterior indicators. so the 65 will get a new flasher in the next day or so.
However I am understanding on the schematics that the actual cluster that the turn indicator oil and gen pod is all positive voltage. So my thoughts are that I will need a flasher that has a negative flash output for my dash indication as well as a positive output for my exterior bulbs.
Is there a flasher like this? If so is there a part number or photo? If not what would be the best way to correct my issue of getting an indication only while the flasher is in use?
Thanks in advance |

The wiring diagram for a ‘56 shows a 4 terminal flasher J1 connected to the dash light K3. Is your wiring different?

That diagram is what I have been working off of however the car is 12V now and the stock flasher relay will no longer work.
I am searching for a 12V flasher that will allow proper function of exterior bulbs but also work the indicator light in the speedometer |

The problem: The dash light is connected to 12V, which requires a connection to GND to turn on the light.
The solution:
1. Find a flasher with 4 terminals, one terminal is open when the signal lights are off and connected to GND when the signal lights are on. I could not find one with this function.
2. Use a relay to connect the dash light to GND when signal lights are on. |

Hello,
I'm working on my '57 and had a similar problem. My car is also converted to 12 volt. My solution was to go to my local O'Reilly and buy a cheap 3 prong flasher, then to Radio Shack for a relay. I wired the flasher to the system and used the 3rd flasher terminal to activate the relay. The relay then switched the ground to the dash light.
Works really well and cost was under $10.00. |

Sorry for the long delay on a reply was trying to work my butt off to get the car fully operational as this car was used to drive away from my wedding.
The work around I used was to buy this relay

Modify my spedo cluster to remove the part of the indicator cluster that connected the common circuit to the turn indicator and then solder a ground wire directly to bulb holder and ground it to body apply the hook up the relay as normal in the later model cars power in from fuse block power out to switch wire to indicator and wire to ground |
