| I just tore down my 1.9 waterboxer. It was tagged with a remanufactured by VW Canada and has pistons marked 94.47. These are not listed in the Bentley and am wondering where to get rings for them. I am also considering the AA big bore pistons sold through CIP but have heard mixed reviews about quality and reduced compression. Any input would be great. |

The VW of Canada remanufactured engines typically have pistons that are .5mm oversized. They are usually Kolbenschmidt pistons and they're good quality. I've never shopped for oversized rings, but from what others have said on this forum, there are vendors who can make custom rings to your specifications.
The AA big bore pistons for the 1.9 have always been fine in terms of deck height and thus compression ratio. It was the early 2.1 AA pistons that were set 1mm too low. But even those have been corrected at this point and are no longer that way.
I think you could go either route and you'd be fine. Maybe someone else can chime in regarding a source for made to order rings.

| Thanks. I was thrown off by the odd size and haven't found any rings that match. |

I just remembered I saw these in the Go Westy Auto Parts catalog. They're .5mm over, so they'd work.
