View original topic: Wolfsburg front bumper air deflector supposed to be colored?

I removed my Wolfsburg's air deflector under the front bumper to get it on the trailer a couple weeks ago. I was looking at the parts to get them back on and there are remnants of bumper colored paint on them. Are these deflectors supposed to be painted? I was going to spray mine black, but just curious about the original trim from the factory? Thanks.

Hi Doug,

The front air-dam was just black textured plastic from the factory - kind of like a GTi fender flare. I think a lot of times as they got old and faded, people ended up putting black trim paint on them to make them look better.

I've had good luck using SEM matte black trim paint to make them look like new again.

Yup. I did mine with Duplicolor flexible bumper coating spray in a can.

Thanks. I am painting the body Toyota Sun Fusion yellow and was kinda cringing that the air dam was supposed to be body color. That might be too much yellow on the front even for me! I was thinking black would look best and I am painting the grilles and D pillar vents the correct original satin black so will hit the air dam pieces as well. I have a plastic bumper primer/prep somewhere I will use first.
