So my good friend 'Banana Split' sent me a link to this thread as I am the 'friend' mentioned back on the first page who originally discovered, if you can call it a discovery, this Barndoor buried in the river bank...
In the early days of the town before enviromental issues and laws became common, this was the town dump, along with other locations where people would throw things out, the closest accessible spot in the those days.
So after asking around...at the time, 20+ years back, that Barndoor had probably been lying in the river bank for another 30+ years as the town quit dumping there in the early part of the seventies. And judging by the depth of the Barndoor in the gravel, well it had been there longer.
I was able to salvage the rear bumperette, the nose VW logo, and the speedo trim...and as it has been years since I was a VW'er I enjoyed being able to see it here and read about everyones interest in the 'Revy Riverbank Barndoor'. |

Hi, Drew, I was going to ask you about this if I ever saw you in kamloops at the bunk house as I was certain you would have known about it and the history.
Not sure if you remember working with me when I was training in revy as conductor, had a few trips with you and talked vw. You gave me a couple old transporter owners manuals. I just got recalled this spring.
I was certainly shocked to find this thing while walking the dog to say the least! |

I believe the 3 digit chassis number can be found on the front axle beam and the original transaxle as well?
steering boxes are usually date stamped with month and year as does the speedo.
Best bet is the last 3 chassis number on the door tops if you find them.
But it looks very much like a 52. |

That's a 1952 or 1953 speedo. It actually looks like the dial face will clean up decent with a little Brasso. |
