This topic could be called, "It's About Time."
I picked up this car about 10 years ago on a trade for a 1960 Driver. It has a lot of cool original parts and accessories that we'll see over the course of the build.
The paint looks OK in the photos but it's been repainted and a very poor job at that. It's bubbling up and separating all over the place.
Bringing it home in 2004
I'm going with L41 Black and Red Interior.

I'm going to have to find a replacement vintage Hirschmann antenna,
ANY help here would be appreciated.
This little dial is associated with the radio. Does anyone know what it does? Two of the wires that connect to it are very long.

That's sounds right. None of the wires were hooked up, just bundled under the hood. If that's what it is I'll probably leave it off. |

A few parts getting tagged and bagged.
The wiring looks pretty good and not to molested.

Nice project Brian! Can you please post a picture of the backside of the hood? Are you staying 6 volt or going 12 volt? |

Wow, same color as my 56 only you have way more cool stuff in yours, including the factory rag top and I really like those gauges. Good call on the color change. Don't know what color I'm goin with yet but it's definitely not gonna be that factory blue. Nothing looks as good as black IMO when it's clean but my last 2 were black and I spent more time cleaning and waxing them than I did driving. Of course that's because I live on a miserable long dirt road. I'm doing a rag top on mine that I cut out of a 57. Just nothin like a rag top as long as it's not aftermarket. Can't wait to see yours as it progresses. Looking good so far, so keep it up. |

It was all mechanical. Sanding with various methods. We took extra time on the vent grill. |

A BENO'S car? Too bad you didn't get the pair of Levis with the car that was commonly given to put the logo on. The local BENO'S clothing store used to be in the building where the Atascadero police department is now. |

No it doesn't. The tube was cut by PO :(
I talked to Hollywood Speedometer a few years back about it and they didn't have a fix. |

It's cool that your spraying it black, since alot of people don't like black cars, and stratos silver tends to be a go to color lately :x
Be aware though, having a black car is a full time job, especially if your like me and writhe at the sight of spider webbing in the sun! :? I will say that a black car with clear paint is way cooler than any other color though, especially on bugs!
Just don't rub it with any pressure, do the 2 bucket method when washing it, and always blow loose dust off rather than wiping if possible. |

Great thread and great work... following this closely as my '55 3-Fold was originally black and I'm leaning keeping it that way (although yes.. I was thinking Strato Silver). :) |

I guess everyone make the mistake of owning a black car once in their life
