I have a tear in my canvas and would like some suggestions on the best method of repair. The canvas is old and thin. If the entire canvas part has to be replaced, can it be replaced without replacing the entire roof. Thanks for any replies. |

Yes, just the canvas tent can be replaced.
There are plenty of choices for new tents.
A search will provide you with options. |

You can try iron on patches from a fabric store. I've used them several times on different vans over the years and it's a great cheap fix. I like to sandwich the tear from both sides and apply them one at a time. Have a friend help by holding a 2x4 on the backside while you iron. This helps you to have a firm surface to iron. They usually have gray and tan canvas to match the Oem tents too!
If you decide to replace the tent this video shows you how without removing the roof. I've done it, it's not too bad. http://vimeo.com/12165017
Good luck! |

I used iron on patches. Explained it in detail on Page 5 here:

And page 6, I installed a new to me one from GoWesty. There are several brands of canvas, made out of several different things, you'll have to do some reading to decide what works best for you. They are described here:

I'm in the PNW, so if I wasn't give one I'd have picked one of made made fibers rather than cotton. Cotton doesn't like getting wet, but does breath well, so they are all great in their own different areas.
