Hi as you may know, I am new to the Samba, although I may not be entirely unfamiliar to some. My name is Rob, I own a 1965 VW Type 3 Variant 1500 S That was built entirely from spare parts, and was dubbed 'The Pile of Bleached Bones' as it was essentially resurrected from the dead. I am trying to work up some money to work on getting rid of the rust on it this year, which has been slow going due to my wife having been in the Paramedic to RN program at the local college the last few years, while she worked one or two days a week at our local EMS company, and I worked at a local Fabrications shop that's just down the street from my house. My dad, who is also on here along with my mom, has given me a 1700 Porsche 914 engine, which I am working towards putting in this summer into my t3. There are quite a few other projects with it I am going to try and get done this year as well. Since it has no roof (at this point) I am going to relocate the fuse box under the front hood, and in the process, swap to blade style fuses, mostly to make it life easier. I also purchased a 2010 Jetta column, that I will put in this summer also, to be able to still have my tilt column and make it vw again instead of having a gm column in it. Another future plan is to make a carbon fiber top for it that will look more like that of a notch back then a square, as the car already looks like a roadster notch back. I am also throwing around the idea of moving my side rear view mirrors from the doors, onto the front fenders, as the car right now, sits the mirrors on the doors vibrate quite a bit making looking in the side mirrors some what nauseating, and I am unsure of another way to make them more stable. I think my dad's roadster has the exact opposite problem where his side mirrors are stable and his center mirror vibrates. But for right now, I am just trying to get my daily driver back on the road. I hope to keep up with updates on here as time progresses. [/img][/img]

Welcome Rob. I'm sure you'll find the help you're looking for here, as there are several guys running a t-4 engine in a type 3.
For those of you wondering, here's a couple of pics of his car (I know some of you have seen it here before  ).

And John J doing some "nose art" to it. 8)

And a pic of the engine he wants to put in it (but he's going with carbs).

That's a great shot from your deck. 8)

If you get yourself a free online image hosting account like Photobucket.com you can upload your photos there then open that image on PhotoBucket and click on the (i) for information. Now you have a 'Direct' image location. Copy the 'Direct' image URL and paste between the code [img] [/img]. You see that button on the Samba reply panel that says IMG. Click once, The code line .

That's it. Preview it to check everything is ok before you post it with the submit button.

Link in my signature to post the pics here from what you posted in the gallery.

As a general message to everyone - Please do not use Photobucket.

I just used the forum link provided in the gallery to put your "deck" shot in my post. Very easy to do. If you post your pics to the gallery, then drop those you want in your thread (using the forum link), they'll stay in your thread (keeping it whole). 8)

He's already got the NLA 411 station wagon boot to use. I believe he's going to use a set of weber 34 ICTs on it for now, then maybe upgrade in the future. The engine already has a 210mm conversion flywheel on it, and he's already picked up a set of bus heat exchangers (still has to remove the 411 units already on the engine).

That's why it was a good deal!

Yea, I wanted to keep the backseat in it, vs mid-engine because it's one of the features on the car that prove it was a squareback not a notch. (rear seat folds up) not to mention the double mirrors. most of the body it'self (granted from different cars [12 total]) is all squareback parts. I also eventually want to convert it to wide five wheels so it's more year specific but I don't want to loose my disk brakes in the front. I'm held up on the engine due to the header, I bought one brand new, but being new to the type 4 I didnt realize that the header's intakes are set up different then what I had. So I am currently trying to sell that header, so I can buy the one I need as I don't have any spare cash at the moment to play with, due to trying to get my daily driver (Honda) running again (having fuel issues currently, not sure if it's something to do with the pump, or a clogged line, will start up fine, but wont stay running.)

Have you tried the Honda forums? Or sent Mark Wolfe an e-mail? I only mention him, as he's into Hondas big time (much to the disapproval of his dad).

Rob stopped by today, and we dug the 1700 out of the shed. First order of business was to stripoff the FI, then we pulled the tins off (had a nest on the 3-4 side), then basically stripped the exhaust off, so he can convert it to bus heat exchangers, and a ceramic coated bus header. Here's some pics of today's work.

Yeah, silly little life issues keep gumming up the works. One of the positive notes: we were Very pleased to attend Amanda's graduation ceremony this spring, we officially have an R.N. in the family now! 8)

Well, it took a forum search to find this thread and bring it back to life.
Here's a couple of pics from what was going on back when Steve was wrapping up work on his Fastback (from last summer).

Yes, that section came my 71 Square-vert. I decided the fall before last summer that I was done screwing around working on that car, and I'm kind of parting it out. It'll probably get jacked up/raised, and turned into a dune buggy for use on the farm here. But it's done being a complete car. It'll be donating it's entire rear subframe and transmission later this spring/early summer to this project you see here.
I'll have to look for the other pics I have of it getting welding in place, along with some of the other "behind the scenes" work that he did.

And here's the shots that Steve wanted last weekend. 8)

Here you can see the short ICT manifolds we got from David (Multi69s) this week, as the CB manifolds we had on were too tall. Still got to put the ceramic coated header back on, and finish mocking up the exhaust and some other things. We fabricated some ends to use the stock T-3 engine hangers, that'll get welded onto the bus bar we're using. We're going to trim the left end of the bar some before welding. That'll probably happen sunday afternoon. Then, the engine will get pulled, so the engine surround metal can get painted. He also wants to powder coat the engine tin and a few other bits while it's out.

He's trying to decide whether to put a stainless steel "fart can" on it that he has, or maybe go with a Super Trap muffler I have here (2 3/8th inlet). I/we like the idea of the Super Trap, but I don't know how it'll sound on the T-4 engine. He used to have a Cherry bomb on his old motor, and liked the sound of it, so we'll have to wait and see what we do in the end.
