View original topic: need help with emergency flasher

I have a 71 square that was pulled out of a wrecking yard and before it can be legal here in ca it has to go through a Brake and Light adjustment test. I took it down today and the guy nit picked about a few things, car pulls to the right when braking, highbeam warning light is always on, flashers malfunctioned,(because of him) I have fixed those problems in the last few hours, but he made it sound like he thought the license plate light is supposed to flash with the emergency flashers, and I certainly don't think so, but are they? That's my first question and here's the second. When you pull down on the turn signal (turning left) or push up, (going right) both little arrows inside the gauge flash. Looking at the wiring it looks all original, and I'm pretty sure both arrows, left and right in the gauge, are supposed to flash no matter which way your turning. Am I wrong? I have a limited time before I can go back and have a second inspection free of charge, please help someone!

No, the license light branches off from the right tail light - there is physically no way for it to blink with the turn signals in e-flasher mode.

Dash arrow lights, they both come on at the same time.

Check the ground wire to the relay (a jumper wire with 1 end grounded, and just touch the tan wire with a white stripe (tracer)), to see if it switches between high and low beams. If touching the tan wire end/connection at the relay with a good ground connected wire doesn't cause the lights to flash between high and low beam, then the relay is bad. If however, it does work, then you need to test the dip switch and it's wiring. An ohm meter will tell you if it's in the wiring or possibly the switch. Also another place to check is the connection under the right screw on the fuse box, to see IF it's got a good ground (if the ohm meter says the switch and it's wiring are good. I just thought I'd mention these, as I went thru them on a 69 Square I had just bought.
