View original topic: Any easy ways to chip out bondo and weld instead?

I just got a 66 fastback that had its trim holes filled with bondo. I'd much rather chip that bondo out and weld the holes. I saw a little spot welder on TV once made for that reason. Has anyone used one or who makes it? Is there any other ideas that work pretty good?

If you're talking about the little Henrob thingy, it can be had at Eastwood. (Can't seem to connect to their site right now.) I've never used one, but here they're pretty handy. But for $300, it better be!

I've used a propane or butane torch, available at any HW store to soften bondo, then scrap away w/ a putty knife. As soon as the paint starts to bubble, remove to heat to avoid warpage.

I agree, I have used one of those little propane torches to heat it and it comes right off. I would just spend the $300 on or towards a mig welder. Then you can weld the holes shut, its not hard. And you have a welder to do other work with. If you have a VW there will be more welding to be done!! You can use a peice of brass to put behind the holes as you weld, weld doesnt stick to brass.
