I made wire frames for the inside of these. Now they stack inside the space where the fridge used to be. Love them!!

I bought some as well…no more shuffling bags around in my tin top. When we stop and set up camp they go right under the rear bed….perfect fit.

I was just poking around several sites looking for the best deal on these...found a button on Sierra Trading Post where you can sign up for their e-mail sales and promo stuff, they immediately sent a code for 30% off $75 purchase. The 4-pack hauler is presently $74.95, so find another small item to put you over the $75 mark, and you get 30% off. It does say "2nds" however in the description of both the 4- and 3- hauler.

so the 4-pack would be $52 and change, plus shipping.

Not shilling for STP, but I spent a few minutes hitting other well-known shops, REI, Dicks, etc. Unless you can find a decent coupon code for them, looks like STP has the best deal presently. Although you may not like "2nds" in you van.

Here is a photo of one in the old fridge compartment. I can put (2)two of them in here with room to spare. If I did not have the Propex mounted below it will hold (3)three of the packs.

The wire frames make them stackable even when not filled.

Can you post a pic of the wire frames and provide any details?

I think the ones on the backcountry site are an older style. Notice how they have the semi-transparent lids, and the big carrying bag is a different design.

I have the older style, which is fine, but I think the carrying bag style of the newer model would be a bit better.

dhaavers Mon Feb 23, 2015 6:18 pm

^^^ We have a few even OLDER that we got <way> back in the day from Campmor (with 2 strap handles -
one on each side of bag, with similar translucent "lids"). Bought individually they were still a good deal
(about $10 each) but the waterproof coating inside has been flaking off for years...blue is the worst...

I finally spent a few hours with a scraper and cleaned up a couple of the worst ones, otherwise they'd
leave tiny little flakes of hard, white rubberized coating all over our "formal" camping clothes...

PS: No such problem with the new cubes - we still love 'em! 8)

found these on ebay from the same vendor if you don't want to go thru the webstore

I haven't used ours yet for camping but have lugged around fairly heavy stuff in a couple so far. I am concerned about the handle tugging on the zipper since the new style doesn't have them sewn down the sides. Any reason to be concerned about blowing out the zipper?

That is the only thing that I don't like about these.
My old snowboard cube has the handles on the body and I have more confidence in it.

No problems in 5 years for us, but we're not really using for "heavy" stuff...

I suppose a shoulder strap clipped to the sewn loops on the ends would be
more secure. ??? Do the "new" bags have these loops...???

Mine aren't the newest but Are the older color closeout last summer before new colors were introduced.

They have loops for a shoulder strap, not a "D" ring but a fastening point none the less.

I'm still fiddling around with the tie-down hooks that are on the 3-hauler Mountainsmith bag, but after securing our Coleman via bolts on the passenger base, I think this could be a great solution for lightweight dry-goods and other stuff you want easy access to in the Weekender.

I just did an extensive write-up on the Mountainsmith bags as we used them on our recent spring break road trip if anyone is interested:

dhaavers Fri Apr 17, 2015 6:36 am

^^^ From your blog:

Quote: I still haven’t found a great way to keep them from shifting around on top of the Coleman cooler but I know a solution is possible.
I'd suggest a layer of common non-slip "drawer liner" laid on top of your cooler:

http://www.amazon.com/Con-Tact-Premium-Non-Adhesiv...awer+liner

It'll last a long time and you'll get plenty to replace it when needed. I even use it in the shop on
the workbench to securely hold flat pieces for machine sanding, etc... Nothing ever slips! 8)

I'm a fan of the Mt'Smith bags, too - and your blog looks great!

Sorry I am a little slow getting these pics on here.

But these are the wire frames I fabricated. This makes the Mountain Smith packs stackable even when not full. They fit perfectly in the cabinet where the fridge was located. If I did not have the Propex mounted on the bottom, you could stack (3)three of these in there.

My wife loves them. She can pack bread, buns, or whatever and nothing gets squished.

Happy Camping!

Will you guys quit posting about these? Jeez.

Every time I reread this thread I peruse the web pages and come close to pulling the trigger. Currently they are on eBay for a great price. Hard to resist...

3-Pack $35
4-Pack $45
Plus Shipping

Looks to be the older style.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251869221474?_trksid=p2060...EBIDX%3AIT

EDIT: After posting this, I became concerned they might sell out, so I went ahead and ordered a 3-Pack. With Shipping $43.93. Dang peer pressure... But I will look cool at Syncrofest 8)

dobryan Fri Apr 17, 2015 9:53 am

Four of them fit perfectly behind the Westy rear seat and then under the bed when lowered.... 8)
