I have a 73 Thing I picked up a couple of years ago with a tired 1776 and bus transaxle that I'm now ready to change. I ordered a new 1776 from Chirco performance in Tucson and while I am waiting on it I have started changing out the Bus transaxle for a Thing freeway flyer transaxle from The Thing Shop.
Everything out
Bus Trans out with lots of extra parts

Once I got the transaxle out and was able to look things over I had to head back to the thing shop for a couple more things, good thing it's only 2 miles from my house.
The plan is to have everything done and in by the 4th of July. |

Got the new transaxle in and finished putting in the drive axles yesterday. Now just waiting for the engine to be completed.

| What year bus transaxle? Does it fir directly or do you have to modify stuff like the shift linkage? |

| I took out the bus transaxle and there was a lot of modification to get it to go in. I replaced it with a freeway flyer from the Thing shop |
