I'm not trying to be an ass folks, but let's try to stick with what the boss asked us to do back on page 2. This has probably not been stickied because there is too much circle jerking and such, and not enough people following the requested framework of the thread. This is meant to be a pictoral reference, not a thread that people have to wade through comments about something other than what was intended- a useful and self explanatory reference. Thanks!

i have a questions about narrowed beams. i restore vdubs but we have never used a beam narrowed more than 2 inches... ive only seen on picture of what was done for a car with a 6 inch beam, they fit the shock towers into the whole where the gas tank sits and im guessin they mod'd the tank and didnt use towers (it wasnt a very detailed picture) now for my question... what has to be modded on the body if u go with a 4 or 5 inch beam? what do i need to do if i dont run shocks? and finally can i see some pics of mods done to fit narrowed beams?
thanks everyone

For a 4" L/P beam you need custom shock towers if you're going to run shocks. Usually plate stock bent a bit to get around the body. If you do a search in the classifieds you'll see what I mean.

I believe 4" B/J beams can run stock shock towers with a little persuasion.

5" or more you run with no shocks. I've got 2 cars with 4" L/P beams, one with shocks and one without and I think I prefer no shocks but it's hard to tell the difference.

FRONT
Continental 175/55/15
Late Fuchs 15x6
KWC 5" narrowed beam
CIP1 porsche adapters
Stock wide 5 drums brakes
will convert to porsche brakes, since the adapter is picking up 3", and defeats the purpose of having NO shocks and narrowed front end. hahahha

REAR
sumitomo 195/60/15
Late Fuchs 15x6
Lowered 2 splines
Stock wide 5 drum brakes

if i would do it over again, i would definitely not get a narrowed front end.

what are portawalls?

sano66 Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:14 pm

wr64badbug wrote: what are portawalls?

a fake whitewall, its a white ring that inserts between the tire bead and the rim bead, simulates a true white wall.

wr64badbug Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:18 pm

oooo
are they easier to clean than a real 1
cause i have real 1's and their a bitch 2 clean

Why?

I was wondering the same.

performance wise, it sucks.
it looks good parked, but making complete u-turns, forget about it.
also, for steering purposes, i do not have a stablizer, so it "dances" when i hit a bump.

thats my opinion.

CB 2" narrowed beam, adjustable, CB drop spindles (ball joint), 135's in the front, and 205/60's in the rear, short axles, down one click (I think) in the back. Rides nice.
