Any one have tips on replacing the door window seals on a 77 bug so the windows dont leak? And particularly, how do you get at the rivets that hold the outside window scapers?

Hi,
The scrapers at the bottom of the glass are not supposed to be water tight. They only get most of the water on the outside of the car. Volkswagen doors are meant to be wet thats why it is very important to keep the weep holes n the bottom of the door open.

In order to get the scrapers out you must remove the glass first. The scrappers are held to the door with small snap springs. Use a flat bladed putty knife and gently pry they will come out. Start at one end a work to the other. Good luck. Jerry

Thanks Jerry - my 70 bus had the kind of scapers that pried out. This bug has the scrapers held in place to the door by small rivets, and the replacement scapers also have rivets. Even when I take the window out, a couple of the rivets are still real hard to get to - either to drill out, or to punch the rivets closed.

Do you have any tips for getting these rivets out and then back in?
