I took my steering column apart for cleaning and when I put the turn signal switch back in I found that if I tighten down the 4 screws it compresses the switch and makes it difficult to operate. The assembly fits in fine even though it was replaced at one time using the cut and splice technique instead of rerouting new wires. Are the screws supposed to be screwed all the way in or just enough to keep the assembly in place? If I screw them in all the way, the lever is too tight for normal operation. Any suggestions?

They just hold it in place, don't crank down on them....
