I'm ready to buy the outside chrome trim for my 1962 Beetle sedan and wanted opinions on which type to get--steel or aluminum? And which company people have had the best luck with.

Stock is aluminium. Aftermarket may or may not be of stock quality. Some folks do like the stainless teel aftermarket stuff, but it has a slightly different color than the stock aluminium trim. Do to that, id not mix the two types.
Besure to install the rubber water seals that surround each retaining clip, this is critical to keep water out of the lower parts of the body, to prevent rust. Leave them out and you may find rotted A pillar bottoms, door bottoms, and rear quarter bottoms, and items stored in the trunk wet.
Which is best, that I dont know, someone more knowledgeable than I can answer that I hope.
Note that the Bugs with the wolfsburg hood crest next to the trunk handle require a different hood trim piece than the cars that lack this crest. |
