So beautiful. Enjoy it! It’s been a long journey for you and I’m glad I was able to help. When you take a car down completely and rebuild to this level it’s hard to not worry. Just remember, you can fix anything on the car if need be.

Now, for me your next project should be Pepco or Judson supercharger :D

Charmaine,

I hope you and the fam are doing well. Have you been driving the car?

Ready for me to build you a 2 liter engine? :D

I’m not sure how I didn’t see this earlier.

But… a super busy summer with almost no time off work, meant I didn’t get out as much as I’d have liked, but I did get out a little.

It’s looking fabulous! You must be stoked with how it turned out!

2022 update?

TheLadyBug Mon Jul 11, 2022 12:07 pm

Hey!

Not much to update.
Last summer Beatrix began walking on the road during drives.
My goal this year was to sort it out. I took her out a couple short trips around the block, and it kept getting worse.

Perfect opportunity for some learning.
Busted out the idiot guide and began at the axle bearings. Got those adjusted.
Moved in to the link pins. Adjusted those.
Still wobbly wheels.

I checked the tie rods, they were on the steering knuckles and the pitman arm nice and tight, and still this strange feeling of the steering being loose. I played with the toe in a bit thinking it could be that and nope.

My dad came over and with the front end off the ground, he turned the steering wheel so I could listen under the car. We determined the steering box was the source of the slippage, so we adjusted the steering box.. This fixed the problem immensely, but not perfect.

Took it for another spin, still not feeling right. I’m thinking the TRW box I have is junk as the steering was kinda ‘clunking’ as it passed through centre. Adding more oil didn’t help.

As things would have it, my friend Bob in Cali messaged, I tell him what I’m working on and he gave me shit for having an aftermarket steering box, so I sent my OG one to him for a rebuild. In the meantime he advises to remove the gas tank so I can get a better look and sure enough, the nut/bolt at the joint where the worm attaches to the coupler wasn’t as tight as it could be. It was the source of the weird sound and wobble. Voila!

Just waiting for the time to put my tank all back in and then adjust my toe in.
I knew having her on the road would mean little things like this, so I’m actually pretty patient with the process. :D

Put the tank in😂 4 bolts and a cotter pin for the reserve lever

Glad you found the problem

Haha yes indeed it’s not a huge job but I hope to get at it this weekend

Doing the toe in and all the measuring will likely take more time. Alas, it’s on the to-do list :D

Yes, toe-in will take a bit of time.

Recommend 2mm of toe-in

For sure TRW steering box was the problem. My mechanic recommened me to restore the original one as well! And the cost was similar or even cheaper.

I used to follow you on instagram.

My little critter that was only 4 years old when I bought Beatrix. :)
Here that critter is, 5 years apart in photos.

Lots of work on Beatrix this past year. Replacing the steering box with her original, working out electrical gremlins. That alignment is still on the radar since I took it all apart again to replace the box. I’m a pro at taking out the gas tank now haha.

Unfortunately this summer, my good friend Dale passed. I’m really sad about it as he was someone I could turn to for questions. He’s the one who heard people were being terrible so he reached out to help me, coming to my house to help. I have made some new friendships over the years and still have people in my corner, but this was a really big loss for us.
