So I'm a reasonable wrench swinger, but this got me twice so it may help others.
Recently, I've done a bit of work to my Power Steering system. New rack due to a seal leak, and I've also filled it several times prior to this to keep the reservoir full.
After the rack was done, I found I had a leak back near the reservoir. Hose? Cracked reservoir? Hmmm. Finally I noticed a couple weeks ago that the lid was on crooked. Feeling like a bozo, I wiped up the mess and we took off on its first road trip.
When we got home 500 miles later, I noticed a few drops on the garage floor again. Crud, must be one of the hoses leaking. Looked and thats exactly what it looked like. Took a bright light and checked the hoses but they seemed tight and good. What's this? The lid is on crooked again! Again!
So I just wanted to warn those who think they have a leaky hose or something near the reservoir. Check the lid carefully. While you install it, the spring under it is resisting and it is very easy to cross thread it. And the resulting leak LOOKS like a pump/hose/cracked reservoir leak.
