So I might buy the 73 tomorrow, I dont have much info on the car or engine. But what is this part above the fuel pump next to the alternator???

again I dont have much info on the car but it does have an issue with randomly cutting out(like it's running out of gas I was told) when driving.
Also is the fan belt backwards? |

EGR valve. Most people remove them.
Fan belt is correct- for that style belt/manufactuer |

That is just a modern top cog belt, those cut outs just make them last longer and create less load than the old solid type.
Some have cogs on the top side like that, others the bottom/inside, only trouble with the bottom style is less contact area on the pulley. |
