Considering I didn't find it on ebay, I would say yes it is a scam. If it is a craigslist ad or even a local classified ad, but saying it will be paid and shipped through ebay, it's a scam.

Contact the seller and ask questions. If you get a lot of westy-specific answers and a good vibe and no mention of buying through some service you never heard of before than worth looking into further. Responses that aren't quite proper english with vague answers like "the car's brakes are in very good condition" with no mention of uniquely vanagon issues/parts/upgrades and wanting to use some purchasing service gives me big red flags. This is more with Craigslist or Kijiji though and Ebay's a little safer. Contact the seller and get a feel for them, then follow your instincts.

Yes as hans says, mention of paying through ebay on a non-ebay site is a scam. I was assuming this was all on Ebay.

This is my go-to site for checking current pricing: http://westfaliasforsale.com/where-to-find-westfalias-for-sale/ and I don't see one listed that matches the year in Texas. It could still be out there for sale, but the guy who runs the blog usually emails the seller to get more information about the van for sale.

ask for serial numbers than check them to see if it is a real van buy the codes.
