I'm thinking of buying a 2 litre ssp engine from Vw Heritage. Does anyone have any experience with these? |

I would join TLB forums and ask there, they are closer to you geographically and will likely have more insight into SSP engines...

They look like a massive bulk producer of many things, which rarely gives you quality but I have zero experience with them so who knows.... |

The VW Heritage site says Street, Style, Power.
It also says all new, no exchange needed, which might well be a plus.

those are T1 engines. He wants a 2.0. To the OP - better make sure that is not a 2.0L T4 engine you are replacing. Apples and Oranges. The T4 engines are all re-manufactured and out of stock.

Actually its hard to say that about VWH with exact sureity. They do have some products that are just excellent.
I am hopefully not far off ordering one of their stainless thunderbird knock off headers for my 412. The only people making one as far as I know. Ray |

FWIW, I've used VWH quite a bit and I've got nothing but good things to say about them as parts suppliers.
They do have Type 4 engines listed, but I have been out of the UK for so long I know nothing about them. New cylinder heads, but doesn't say anything about them having been reworked.
If I still lived in the UK and was after a new engine Laurie Petit would be my first port of call - I think Chrisradioman had an engine off him - might be worth PM-ing him. |

I managed to find a site on the internet to help anyone who's having trouble in that regard:

Here in the UK, I used to use Dutch Vege engines 20 years ago, swore by them, but now you hear mixed reviews as they get lots of stuff from abroad, so we try and rebuild what we have got locally.
VW Heritage used to stock Remtec engines, which is South African remanufacturer, my mechanic is not impressed with Remtec, but since then I understand from a Volksword article and this brochure:
http://data.vwheritage.com/_inc/pdf/catalogues/Engine_Brochure_lo_res_V2.pdf (note this link is a hefty 45MB download in PDF)
that VW Heritage's SSP (Street Style and Power) brand are done in the UK by an ISO accredited British manufacturer, you would need to ask them to double check on that, as you find some companies use a mixture of suppliers, but it sounds like they tightened up their supply chain to source from a more accountable and trustworthy company, so I think it sounds like SSP is definitely an option worth considering and investigating further.
He has already been mentioned, and I hear really good things about this chap and his engines:

He wrote this book for Haynes (which I understand was not printed, as Bentley will now be publishing it, which sounds like a good endorsement to me!):
