the hold down nuts on the rocker arms for a 78 bus... Muir book has conflicting info: 10ft lbs, 14ft lbs, 18ft lbs... can anyone tell me where to set my torque wrench please? |

I don't like to dish Muir's book as it is very helpful to a newbie, but get yourself a Bentley or a Haynes when it is time to get your hands dirty. |

Most fasteners (head studs come to mind) that seem under-torqued by the book have thermal assistance… When the engine warms up and parts expand, the torque becomes tighter so you don't have to gorilla-fist it.

indeed... Muir is definitely good for doing exactly what the title says; keeping the VW alive, but if you need more technical info you may not find it |

the main source of confusion for this fastener is that the type 4 engine uses 7mm thread size and the 1600 style (Type 1) engine uses 8mm nut to secure the rockers. an 8mm nut will be 14 ft lb. |
