I'm a big fan of the "Cool vintage photos" threads in the split, oval, and barndoor forums. If you havent seen them, go check them out, they are stickies at the top
I like type 3's more, and there are a lot of old vintage photos of type 3's out there. Find some, post 'em up. |

I found quite a few in this thread. Got quite a few as "screen savers". One of my favorites was of a collie in the trunk of a Notch in winter. :D

Seems that there's only about half as many in there now. Don't know if Ev moved the dealerships out to another thread. |

yes, there are some real nice pics in that thread, hard to wade through to find typ3 ones though, especially if they are in there with other cars that do get tagged

I searched that link for "Austria" and did not see the one I posted back in 2003; which accounts for the grainy, low-resolution scan image:
Here's the caption from the gallery:
On a free weekend during a business trip 2 years ago, I was travelling in southern Austria and came to the Felbertauern tunnel. This tunnel is along highway 108, south of the ski resort of Kitzbuehel, and in the next valley to the west of the famous Grossglockner Alpine Road. It was too late in the day to drive south thru the tunnel, but I stopped at a small gift shop there and found this postcard. It shows the south entrance to the tunnel on a beautiful sunny day. I estimate it was printed in the late '60's, as it looks like there is a big-bumper Beetle on the far left. The Fastback in the foreground would also be from the late '60's as its decklid logo is "1600 TL". The license plate is German, "NU" stands for Neu-Ulm in Bavaria. Here the Fasty is stopped on the south side of the tunnel (heading north) at the toll booth. Speed limit thru the tunnel is 70km/h (approx. 44mph) and no passing allowed. The Fasty's driver is chatting with a fellow dressed in typical Lederhosen from the region. The two mountains in the distance are the Roter Kogel (2945m = approx. 9720 ft) on the left, and Dichten-Kogel (2843m = approx. 9380 ft) on right. The white Beetle in background looks like a '64. |
