Here's a K profile lock cylinder question for you:
I have a lockable decklid latch on a 67 beetle that is a VW profile, but not the correct K profile for a 67. I also have a spare 67 door handle that has a K profile cylinder in it. Is it possible to swap the lock cylinder from the handle to the latch? I can have a local locksmith re-key the K cylinder so that it works with my existing K key, which would result in having the ignition, doors, and decklid use the same key.
Has anyone ever done that? Thanks for your insight. |

Door lock cylinder is different... but there is hope.
K profile years are 1967-1970 and deck lid locks were common .
Find a 68-70 decklid lock latch, modify the cylinder to fit your key by swapping (or filing) tumblers until it works.
Did that to my 67 ... one key, doors, ignition, deck..

Brilliant, thank you! I found one with a K profile in the classifieds and bought it just now. I'll have it re-keyed and I'll be off and running. |
