Thank you
I did start applying the graphics
But had an issue

The decals I purchased were not layered over each other
Meaning the numbers were not on top of the white circle, but cut in and seperate
This caused a small gap that would only get larger over time as they start to shrink

I peeled them off and contacted the seller
He’s sending me a new set

I worked on a few other things
I painted the front bumper brackets silver

So that’s much better

I removed the adjustable decklid stand offs
And installed stock hinge mounts
I added the Empi lower standoff and am much happier with it

I still have to paint the rear bumper brackets and supports

New gumballs arrived
But they have to wait
I had minor knee surgery last week, then fell after and hurt the other knee
I’m currently recovering lol

I’ll be back up and around in a couple days and will try again on the decals

Bummer on the double knee issues. BTDT. I had knee surgery a couple years back. It took a couple months before I could bend my right knee.

I found that using an HF rolling stool helped allot getting things done around my cars.

Here's to a quick mending of your knees. :D

Thanks bud
Recovering pretty well

In the meantime , Ol’ Herb sits and waits

I couldn’t wait
And these are not awesome decals
Stripes are individual colors that seperate when applying
The door gumballs are ok , as is the decklid
The hood gumball doesn’t have extra in the middle and also Comes as one piece
I cut it in two and tried spacing them out a little to hide behind the chrome strip
Didn’t work

So…
I’m on the fence about painting the livery
Stripes will be “easy”
But the gumballs will require some stencils
I’m just so far from happy with the ones I have

That front hood meat ball looks funky.
The door meat balls, the #3 looks like it's upside down.

Maybe consider having the meat balls hand painted locally.
This is a company in Yuba City that does hand sign painting,

Get a local sign/wrap shop to make you a decent decal set. They should be able to print it for you on Avery 1105 or comparable wrap material that will be much easier to install.

I think it all looks great, except for the front gumball. Seems too close together.
This is turning out so fun! Kinda makes me want to do this to mine

Ol’ Herb received his plates finally

Now everyone knows his name lol

I’ve just caught up with this whilst drinking my morning coffee, I’m really impressed with what you’ve done. There are so many “Herbies” out there which are all wrong, even to the casual observer, so it’s nice to see someone has put in so much effort to get it right.

As I’ve said to you before, the Herbie films mean a great deal to me so to see this car out on the roads makes me so happy! Well Done.

Yeah, I'm unhappy with the decals as a whole
The hood gumball was one piece. I cut it down the middle and even spaced them apart about 1 inch to try and help.
I also went back yesterday and added the white to the chrome which also helped some

That's the money shot, the white on the chrome makes it. I've been following you and I think you did an amazing job.

EA812 Tue Jun 03, 2025 6:40 am

I've been following this since the beginning the car came out great! I've had the same issue with those.Decals , and that's the second set I put on the first set weren't individual like this But they kept peeling on the corners and I tried glue, heating up everything . They didn't stay right either. I guess there's just really isn't a good set out there.I've been considering the painting idea too. The white on our front gumball is the actual white of the car.

I agree that this is the money shot! That strip looks way better. This has been so fun to watch the progress

Stupid little things that I spend money on that nobody will notice or even care about :

slave1pilot Sun Jun 08, 2025 4:12 pm

Well crap

Ol’ Herb sprung a leak
I think it’s from the oil cooler
Gotta do more teardown to find out

vwuberalles Mon Jun 09, 2025 6:56 am

Maybe it was self defense? Did someone try to break into your garage?

Hmm, a Herbie referrence. Funny!

BTW Slave, The guy I PM'd you about said this,
Quote: Awesome another Herbie build too, this should help a lot. Thank you so much your help and info is greatly appreciated.

slave1pilot Fri Jun 13, 2025 3:54 pm

Nothing seems weird with the oil cooler seals

No real signs of oil in the area
Inside of the shroud is dry
I’m going to replace them anyway
I’m thinking it could’ve been the oil pressure gauge or adapter
I removed both and am just installing the switch like normal since the gauge was really only for break in
