View original topic: Anybody want to split an O2 set up?

I'm looking at getting an O2 gauge. I found one I like, a semi-kit that I can build into my own chassis. $150 . I want to use it on two vehicles to jet the carbs and I already have the bungs and plugs for that so I don't need the bung that comes with the kit.

But with this work done I don't need it again---or not for a long time.. I was thinking I could just sell it.

But I was also thinking I could co-buy it with one or more other people, do my stuff and just pass it on. In theory a half dozen people could go in on it and pass it around as needed for tuning. @4 people the cost comes to $40 + $7 for a flat rate box every time it gets passed. Very reasonable.

If the group is in the Northern colorado area we could hand off in person.

Anybody interested?

Do you ever work on friend's cars for fun? I thought about doing this, but buying it outright means I don't have to remove their spark plugs to read mixtures. This way I don't strip a thread on accident and make myself responsible for their running engine's immediate need for machine work. I'm not saying I have a gorilla fist, but if a previous mechanic was unkind to the threads, or there's a bad threaded insert, I don't want to be the one to find out.

I use mine all the time now. Rarely on my own car though, as I know exactly how my jets are, and I can tune 14.5-14.7 idle by ear.

Also, I love to experiment in my free time. When my car is running well, I'm tempted to leave well-enough alone. With a free meter, I'm constantly tinkering looking for an extra ounce of reliability or efficiency.

Just my two cents.

I don't work on anybodies car for fun. I work on them because I am poor so I have to. It stopped being fun some dozens of years ago I guess...

I already have too many very good and expensive tools that gather dust...

I have more fun driving them places. That's me...

I bought one and set up my VW's, then sold it.

A few years later I bought it again and this time im keeping it. It's too useful of a tool not to have available, for me.
