Mines been wacky now for a month.... I have to call them tomorrow about it.

werksberg Tue Oct 30, 2012 10:51 am

Well, PayPal has fixed it and it is back to normal now...

PayPal was back to normal but has yet changed again to us having to copy and paste the tracking # on the drop down link to get rid of the ship link on the PP main pages... GGRRRrrrrr

I guess I need to really break down and call them tomorrow.

So I need a little advice.

I am selling my bus and have a buyer in the UK. I only advertised my bus here on TheSamba (not on CL or anywhere else). The buyer seems honest and gave me contact info of several other folks (members here as well) that he purchased from recently.

Anyway, he sent me a deposit via PayPal and wants to send the remainder via PayPal as well. I don't see any way this could be a scam. He negotiated a price (not like he's offering me $3K more like most scams). I emailed the folks who did recent business with him and they all said good things.

I informed him the bus and title would not leave my possession until full payment had transferred out of PayPal and into my hands.

So, anyone have any input on how this could eb a scam and maybe I'm overlooking something?

Thanks!

Based on what you posted it does not sound like a scam.
The only issue with Paypal is that they can do a dispute after the fact and lock your account/try to get their money back.
This is why I would not take Paypal for a vehicle sale. (aside from the fees involved)
The last few cars I have bought and sold I did a wire transfer.

This could be a new or old scam or someone that is clueless....

A couple weeks back I got a customer's e-mail asking when am I going to ship an order out from late April. It had the payment information in that e-mail but after looking at it...they misspelled my e-mail addy, so I never received the payment or order.

I politely pointed out that I never rec. that payment as they misspelled my addy and showed them the correct way to spell it and that PayPal would still have their money for them.

Now 2 weeks later, I get the same e-mail asking a 2nd time when am I going to ship that order from late April..... I e-mail them back yet again stating that again.

I then made a call to PayPal and after a long search for them....PP told me that customer had cancelled that payment / order 10 days back!

Just a head's up for us sellers....

Tweaked the first post in this thread a little based on some recent issues I have seen or heard about.

If anyone has anything to add or comment on in regards to the lists at the start of this thread, let me know.

Under Paypal Tips, maybe dont allow anyone to ask for %'s or gifts anymore. Paypal is now set up where you can put in the amount the seller is to receive and you pay the fee. No need for sellers to ask for percentages or ask you to send as a gift anymore. Annoys me to see all the ads where sellers want you to add a percentage for the fees when there are none if the buyer sends the amount the seller is asking. It even says it right there on Paypal, 'Buyer will receive...'

Thanks for the input.

This is not something I can control but if there is something I can add to the first post here, I will add to it or edit it to lean people a certain way.

I just went to http://www.paypal.com and what you described was not an option.

Here are the 2 options I get. They no longer call the second one a gift but it's the same thing.

Myself, I hate when people use the 2nd option because:
Paypal doesn't send me their address (because it was sent as a gift) which means I can't use the Paypal shipping and get free tracking and cannot easily print out a label.
For the buyer - they are not covered and cannot dispute it.

Ditto here Everett as I have been lots of PP payments as Gifts or friends and no ship to address or notification on my main PP screen this needs to be shipped out....

Anyone use Walmart money orders?
I have a guy who wants to pay with one instead of the common USPS MO.
Scam?

EverettB Sat Oct 04, 2014 10:52 pm

I don't use them but I think I have received one or two over the years when people just sent whatever they wanted instead of following my instructions to use a USPS money order.
I deposited them in my bank account without issue.

I think but am not 100% sure that you can take them to Walmart and verify and cash them so if you can do that locally, it should be ok.
This is different from a lot of other random money orders from other convenience stores who will not cash their own money orders (!)

I can see one problem with them. I'm in Canada, so if a buyer from the US sends me a Walmart MO in USD, I bet the local Walmart won't give me USD.

I'll ask at my bank what they would do.

Either way, I haven't received a reply from the guy.

I have a solution to this problem.
Once you have their address, go to any other transaction in your Paypal acct for someone else where you didn't print the shipping label, and select "print shipping label". Once you're in there, you can completely edit the entire shipping address and print your shipping label.
I've done this a few times, so it works well. The only thing to be aware of is that Paypal will automatically send an email to the original buyer informing him he's getting a delivery.

Has anyone recently shipped anything to Russia?

I had a guy from Moscow do a Buy-it-Now in one of my ebay auctions. If you follow the mainstream news, Vladimer Putin has suspended trade with many western countries. I called the post office (here in Canada) and they told me packages were being returned from Russia. Because of that, I cancelled the guy's order and refunded him.

I'm wondering if it is true that you can't send into Russia?
