Wow! Please post a few details on the interior once you have it. It looks very well thought out, and very well put together. Nice score! :D

I will for sure. I like the L shaped back seat. I just hung out on it for 30 mins or so just checking out my surroundings. The interior is definitely unique but I think I really like it. Maybe an overhead cabinet is the only thing I would add. I like the really big bed and the open space that this layout provides.

Question:
How would you describe the number of uber cool Vanagons in Seattle?

Answer:

Steve M. Tue Apr 14, 2015 7:55 am

Whew...I was in Tacoma around the docks this weekend...I'd have been arrested for sure trying to get closer!
Congratulations on getting it!

Jake de Villiers Tue Apr 14, 2015 8:54 am

Nice van, Dan! Congratulations! Can you give an idea of the cost for the van and the shipping? Thanks.

danbar Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:46 am

Jake, I would say I got a very good deal on the van, even by European prices so it probably wouldn't give an accurate representation of what it would cost to buy something like this over there. As for the shipping it adds up in nickles and dimes along with the bit ticket prices. Best guess without going over everything and adding it up I'd say from Vienna to Tacoma all told was @ $5500-6000. Still with the initial cost of the van combined with shipping I'd say this was well worth the cost.

Nice! Did Busman find the van for you? Or did you find it yourself on line?

danbar Tue Apr 14, 2015 12:23 pm

I found this one myself, it took many months of searching several times a day on multiple sites. Even though there are more to choose from and the prices are less people still snap up the good ones fast in Europe. After making initial contact with the seller I had Busman deal with him for me, I was kept in the loop with both of them so I knew what was happening and I could chime in as needed. I was lucky in that I got a really great seller who was very helpful and as everyone always says Busman was awesome to deal with.

Here's a few pictures I took while scoping the van out today.

It's huge inside with the top up.

The Fiamma works.

Plenty of room.

This layout feels really open inside.

The cabinetry is very well made.

This is where the propane used to live. The bottles had to stay in Europe. I need to figure out how I'm going to sort this out.

I love this steering wheel. Two knobs and three stereos. Need a decoupler now.

I'm pretty excited for the outside shower. Perfect for after surfing.

I need to figure out the command center. It's all in German.

outcaststudios Tue Apr 14, 2015 6:22 pm

that is awesome! i thought i had it made with my basecamp shower, that thing installed on yours is next level!

MsTaboo Tue Apr 14, 2015 6:26 pm

Big time jealous! Very nice looking.
That's the kind of pop top I really want. Wish someone could replicate these here in N.A.
Hows the head room with the top down?
Yep, the electronics could be a headache with the 220v setup, I had to strip out all the 220v gadgets from my Joker and redo with 110v.

danbar Tue Apr 14, 2015 7:18 pm

I would say with the roof down that the inside clearance is at least 6'2" maybe a bit more. Im still getting used to not having to crouch down when Im in there.

luVWagn Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:08 pm

Joe at Mule switched me over from 220 to 110 (mostly just battery charger and outlets), and also sorted out my propane hookup to use the standard Coleman bottles (my heater is diesel, so only stove off of propane).

danbar Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:46 pm

Yeah I was thinking of stopping by out there and talking to them. The only little issue I currently have is that the fuse for the second battery relay is popped and it's an impossible to find in the States fuse. I have a guy ordering me one at the marine electric supply. Once I get that going I'll start sorting everything else out.

Waldi Wed Apr 15, 2015 5:28 am

I like the interior also.
As the whole van and the story buying/transfering it over and beeing happy with the buy.

I wouldnt change the engine. Never change a running system.

The only thing i would do, change the refrigerator vc a compressor box and mount some solar panels.

And the most important flot all frames, all under the car and locations (behind the kitchen, behind all panels) with oil or mike sanders or something you prefere.
I mix the fluid with 2-stroke oil with strawberry smell.

Microbusdeluxe Wed Apr 15, 2015 10:06 am

I agree with the previous poster, Waldi. Clean the undercarriage and put something on it for corrosion protection. They use a lot of salt on roads in Northern Europe. While my Joker import was quite clean underneath, I still had it steam cleaned and then used 6 cans of Waxoyl Hardwax to protect it.

RainierSyncro Wed Apr 15, 2015 10:47 am

Were you able to get/keep the cool blue/white license plates that were on the van?

danbar Wed Apr 15, 2015 8:30 pm

I didn't get to keep the plates. Too bad. BUT!!! This van is now fully registered and legal in the state of Washington! To celebrate we took a trip to the beach after work.
