Does anyone know the exact shade of blue used on my car? I'm wanting to touch up some scratches and spots where it's faded. Thanks in advance!

I thought you were going KDF black?

sb001 Sat Feb 21, 2015 7:42 pm

Hi vwjapan,
Please check here for a reference chart of Mexican beetle paint codes/ colors:

http://1600i.de/1600i-allgemein/uebersichten/MexicanBeetleBodyworkandInteriorColourCodes.htm

2000 had 3 shades of blue--royal navy, riviera, and soft blue- my guess for yours is Royal Navy?

lol, change in plans. please check the oval and split forums if your curious as to my current plans.

this is the last thread I started and someone finally got me to stop all of this. realized so much! read towards the end, too.

Here is another thread.

I did however change my mind about the AC and whole importing an Oval into Japan thing. way too risky for my marriage and just in terms of buying a car you can't see in person.

got knee deep into those split/kdf details and decided not to go through with it all. those split guys saved my a$$.

long story short, I'm just wanting an actual classic bug with the smaller glass house one day, doesn't have to be a split. even if I change all that stuff, I don't think I'll be happy in the long run. want an oval, but anything up to 64 is damn nice too!

apologies to everyone that tried to help me out with all my questions, and then for me to just turn around and put a haunt to all that. I think it really took all of that though. if it hasn't looked into everything well like I did, I would have spent a lot of money, waste even more time, and ended up with a car I still wasn't happy with. thank you guys! and sorry...

and thanks, SB! glad to hear from you, buddy!

wonder if mine is Royal Navy blue or Rivera blue?

Here's some info about your car:

Looks just like yours (minus the rims :D )

Your colour is Baltic blue (Azul Baltico)

Bleah-- I forgot about it being a Jeans Beetle- thanks hopkin. sorry vwjapan!!

I did a little more digging, I think the paint code is LC7V. Google the paint code 'LC7V VW' and look at some of the photos, etc.

My car had a sticker with the paint code under the front bonnet, albeit it was a piece of masking tape with the paint code written on, but it was correct.

Maybe there's a hidden sticker somewhere on your car.

Good luck!

type1vwjapan Sat Feb 21, 2015 8:59 pm

wow, you guys are awesome! thanks Hopkin, I'll look for that sticker, but I trust your call on the paint color. you are the god and true guru if these cars! no sweat, SB. appreciate the help!

I don't plan on changing my car for the next couple of years at least. need to save up and I'm having my mandatory car inspection here in June ($1500) I will be good for 2 years then. these insepctions are every 2 years. figure I'd at least better hang on to it until I have to have it inspected the next, next time in June of 2017.

in the mean time I plan on touching up the faded rough, slight scratch of the rear left fender, scratches around the drivers door handle from the PO scratching it with the key, and a few other places that could use attention. Might even consider painting the dash, but that seems a little overwhelming and would require a lot of work and could potentially come out looking terrible and messy. might just leave that alone.

if anyone is interested in buying my car, let me know! yes, I'm all the way in Japan, but the shipping should be over 2 to 3 grand. of course I'll consider that in the final sale price.

has dual carbs, AC, only 58k KM, a rust free body, and all original body parts. runs and shifts like a dream now and has all cooling tin in place. new tires. has had all regular routine maitenance. has just a few cosmetic issues. small hole in headliner at the back, removed dash padding, few scratches and faded roof in one section, which I'm planning on addressing. throw me an offer if you or someone you know is interested! I'd be happy with 4-5k, plus shipping! so you are looking at a max of 8k. max! pretty damn good deal considering the overall condition of this car, both mechanically and physically. great, sound car. driven daily. no issues whatsoever now.

According to wikipedia, the 2000 jeans edition beetle was "batik blue pearl":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle_in_Mexico
(scroll down to 2000 model year in the "Economic Crisis and Sales Decline" section)

which of course sure sounds like Baltic Blue but I think is different. The same "Batik Blue" color was used on 2000 New Beetles so I guess it makes sense. I looked up the color here and found this paint code LG5T:

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?comm=batik+blue&rows=50&button=Search

Hopkin's LC7V is very very close, but I think just a shade lighter--it comes up as a "Blue Anthracite":

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?comm=lc7v&rows=50&button=Search

Hope some of this can help- sorry to hear you are thinking of selling!

I would do a little more research before ordering the paint code I found. It was one of the colour codes I found in a chart of Audi/VW colour codes from 1999 with the description 'Azul Baltico'. It could be correct, but you never know. I got 'Azul Baltico' from the link I provided, that information may be incorrect.

sb001 has indicated a different colour code, you should check that one out as well.

You could drop Antonio a note, he might know for sure.

Also, here's another link about the Jeans edition. No extra info there, but I thought you might be interested:

thanks for all the help as always. I checked a little more into it yesterday, and seems like its more close to the one SB recommended. But, I will do as you said hopkin and confirm the color beforehand. yes, I considered contacting Antonio as well. I also have also visited those webpages you guys mentioned for the Jeans Beetle. I forgot the paint color was mentioned on there.

Very helpful information as always. Thanks!!! :D

by the way hopkin, hope your rims get to you ASAP. Have you been tracking them on the JAPAN POST link I sent you? I really anticipate them getting there quickly, as I've found that Japanese posal service is the best I used in terms of price, puncutuality, reliabilty, and customer service.

I've been watching them, the tracking numbers also work on Canadian postal tracking site as well.

Once they reach customs I will know. I don't expect to see them for a few weeks, no matter as the weather here sucks and I'm doing anything to the car for at least another month.

I'll drop you a note when I know more.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

A decent modern paint company will put a small device on your car. The device will read and match your paint near enough exactly, then their computer will automatically adjust the nearest paint code found, to match your car. I had a 1987 ford Capri, due to paint fade etc the nearest paint was a vauxhall colour ( believe that's GM in USA). The paint was made up and mixed on the spot all for the same price as normal paint. They even offered to make me an aerosol. I can't remember the paint reader device name but I'm sure plenty of modern companies could help you out. The paint matched perfectly.
