View original topic: New fuel tank woes: gauge bolt holes and now outlet threads

I bought this tank yesterday. When I got ready to install it this morning I noticed the holes for the gauge sender unit on the tank itself are off from piece with the threaded holes welded to the inside of the tank. Take it back and throw the project off course? Dremal the overhang? Just try it as is --thinking the bolts will do the trick? Thanks in advance...

Sorry if that picture is crazy huge. I did it on my phone and do not know how to adjust the picture size.

Holes tapped by the dealer. Trying it tomorrow. Should work

Have you tried threading the bolts into it? The reason I ask is it looks like the holes were stamped, but the nuts were welding in using a jig that holds them in the correct (non radial) position. Have you rotated the sending unit to all five positions to see if it aligns?

If you've done all that and it still is screwy, I'd call Mid America Motorworks and ask them where they come from so we can all avoid them. That is where you got it, right?

The tank is from my local dealer. I have no idea where he got it. I took it back to him and he simply tapped out the sender bolt holes, easy.

New problem: the threads on the outlet pipe of the tank do not seem to match up with the nut that holds the outlet tube and sock in place; when I try to put the nut on it does not groove with the threads and wants to strip them. Wrong kit? Cheap Chinese tank? Get a die and chase threads on tank?
