Anyone here have one of these? I just bought one on amazon, but the adapter isn't right. The one I bought is the model 0109 european black label. My master cylinder cap is very small, it looks like I would need to buy the british adapter(1110) to fit the reservoir.

Hi there,

Here is the one you need:

I bought one a couple of years ago. Worth its weight in gold. I have found it to be a great tool to use. Make sure you remove the filter from the resevoir, before you try using it. Also, I found it useful to do a "dry run" each time, before I use it. In other words, leave it empty and pump it up to about 5psi...make sure you don't have any leaks and avoid any potential messes. Hope this proves useful! Let us know how you did. 8)

I have one too. Works great!

It sure beats having the wife pump the brake pedal.

Do a gravity beer bleed . you fill the reservoir and crack open a wheel cylinder ; then go have a beer .
when you finish your first beer tighten up that cylinder and repeat for all 4 wheel cylinders and 4 beers

Bobnotch's beer bleeding system  ...worked for me .

I have the Motive and its great! Some people also pump the master after opening one of the bleeders, while the pressurized Motive is hooked up to the reservoir, to circulate even more fluid. Worked very well for me.

you can buy just the adapter if you want. 1104 Air Cooled Vw Adapter

http://motiveproducts.3dcartstores.com/1104-Air-Cooled-Vw-Adapter-_p_97.html

Summit, Amazon, Ebay and more have them. Or send it back and ask for the correct adapter. Use like 5 - 7 psi pressure is usually adequate, never over 10 even thought it says 15 PSI in the instructions. The old plastic tubes, hoses and reservoirs can and do split. One guy in a Ferrari forum put brake fluid all over his paint and engine bay when a hose broke at 15 PSI, then spent hours cleaning it up before it ate the paint.

I've used mine on the bus and with another adapter our Sable Wagon. On both cars it got out small bubbles after caliper rebuilds that would not come out with normal bleeding - especially on the Sable.

I have one and it is great. I have done pump 'n shout, gravity and vacuum bleeding as well. I like the Motive the best.

For bleeding I can see why you might want to fill the tank but if you are just doing a maintenance flush, I prefer to fill the reservoir and leave the motive dry.

That way if I have a leak, I do not end up with a quart of brake fluid to clean up.

QUESTION: Has anyone used the motive to push the fluid from the wheel cylinder to the Master Cylinder? How has that worked?

I made an adapter for my Motive bleeder by taking an ACVW cap, drilling a hole in it, and inserting a tire valve into the hole in the cap. You can remove the little stem from inside the tire valve to make it work this way.

I recently bought the VW adapter (part number 1104) for my motive bleeder. The gasket supplied did not fit in the cap (it was too large) and I was unable to properly thread it onto the fluid reserve bottle in the Bus.

I returned it as a defective unit. I am wondering if others had a similar experience or is it just me?

I made a pressure bleeder unit from a contractor pump sprayer crom Home depot and a few fittings and some hose for about half the cost. I have the acvw acqpter that SGKent listed.
I also bought the Schwaben pressure bleeder adapter from ECS tuning for my,water cooled VW.
You can use it on your Motuve unit too. It allows bledding most European sater cooled brakes as well as fitting the antifreeze reservoir to do vacuum evac fluid changes.

A suggestion to pay attention to on ACVW. Make sure you keep the preszure low....under 20 psi....and/or....clamp the connecting tubes from the reservoir to the MC.

There is a reason why the Scbwaben system uses an adjustable chain wrap around to keep the cap on. The pressure can literally blow the reservoir off the MC.

Once....long ago.....I have seen a pressure bleeder blow a connecting line off of a reservoir nipple on a type 3. Ray

I checked this out on Amazon and it says it does not fit a 1977 transporter....hmmm, I found similar problems on Amazon, ie lug nuts

would like to know the results

You're getting good advice :)

The 0104 has the right reservoir cap. from the linked item:

Quote: "Product description
Power Bleeder- pressure brake bleeder, 2 quart capacity, with 27mm threaded adapter (1104) for air-cooled VW including Bugs, Buses, Square Backs and Fast Backs."

And from the vendor:
https://www.motiveproducts.com/pages/application-guide

Quote: "Air Cooled VW

VW Bus 1950-1967 will use kit 0100 - 45mm threaded cap 1100 adapter
VW Beetle after 1963, bus after 1967 will use 0104 kit - 27mm inner diameter threaded reservoir cap -- 1104 adapter

If it uses a push on cap it will be the 0101 kit."

I used mine on my Ghia over the weekend, haven't yet used it on the Bus. It does the job.
