View original topic: Help Needed Finding a Few Decklid Hinge Bolts
jl_1303 Wed May 13, 2015 5:53 am

The threads of my Decklid Hinge Bolts have been stripped.

Car is a '74 Super Beetle.

I tried a few places but have not been able to find any. Do you have any or could you point me to somewhere where I could find some?

Thanks.

Those are 6.0mm x 1.0mm thread, should be able to get replacements at Ace Hardware, unless yours is a perfect restoration.

If the hole threads are also buggered, I'd tap to next larger size, even consider SAE thread. For example 1/4 inch is like 6.25mm so slightly larger.

If you can't find the screws, try an m6 socket head. I know Home Depot sells them, they're in with all the metric fasteners in drawers.

It's not a prefect restoration but I have always been trying hard to use original parts, where and when possible.

Are these bolts hard to find used?

Just check your 6mm bolt drawer. Everybody has a 6mm bolt drawer don't they? :D

I do. Engine tin screws work too if I remember right.

Engine tin screws are in the 6mm drawer and will work.
