I had my 67 VW convertible with a great body, no rust for a couple of years. The previous owner installed the body on a very nice, not restored and rust less 68 VW pan. The VIN is on the body tag and title. I run the car for awhile with the mechanics restored but the body left as I got it. I'd like to pull it apart for stripping and painting. One issue that has to be addressed is that the rear mounts - body to rear frame mount was butchered by the previous owner. I'll attached some pictures. A friend who owns a 63 VW said he heard the 68 frame/pan mounting casting was 3/4" taller than a 67 due to suspension changes. I would like to drill out the spot welds on the rear body mounts and weld in a replacement set. Has anybody else run into this situation? Any suggestions?
