So I bought a 2276cc motor that is really an oddball. I'm told that it has:
82mm stroke, 94mm bore
Stock-ish heads with 45cc combustion chambers, 35.5mm intakes and 32mm exhausts- needs work, the valves are not sealing.
full flowed AS41 case, line bored .040, welded #3, bugpack counter-weighted crank
9.2-1 compression.
scat C35 (similar to engle 110)
It's time for new heads.
looking to build a quick street bug. be happy with 100hp (Happier with more, of course). But something streetable above all else. Not trying to build a dragster.
What should I do? Is my C35 cam too small for this displacement? Can I get away without splitting the case? Ultimately what heads should I get? rocker ratio recommendations, combustion chamber size, brands.... all welcome
planning on using a pair of dellorto 40's.
Open to suggestions on exhaust. |

| You'd have something like a 3.5mm deck height if those heads are in fact 45cc chambers. The valve sizes are too small as well for the displacement. I have the same cam, there are better ones, but it's not bad with 1.25/1.3 rockers. |

I think that kind of build is more normal than it is odd. lotta ppl people get combinations all wrong because they follow mismatched advise here and there and spend money on the marketed stuff vs stuff thats actually important.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if 94touring was right about you having that much deck.
if I were you id blow it all apart and make sure its right, but nothing wrong with not and just swapping heads. ive run the C35 in a couple engines too, im sure you'll be fine |

| Good to hear on the C35 cam. What heads are you guys running with the c35? I have my eyes on the Panchito 044 or the MOFOCO 041. |

Panchitos with the bowls in the ports tidied up so they flow right, don't worry about the cam you'll clear 100hp easily, machine the cylinders to get the deck right if you don't wanna split the cases. 1.25/1.3 rockers for sure like they said above, you'll need dual springs or beehives. I think a pretty low-effort path to your goal.
You'll be able to see cam and lifter condition with the cylinders off for trimming so you'll have your answer on whether or not you can justify splitting the cases if you wanna take the chance leaving it together. |

Consider https://www.performanceworkshop.net/ for a good set of heads. |

For heads, I would decide what path you want to take.
Are you wanting to just lay out some cash, and buy a set ready to go?
Or are you wanting to do a little work to them yourself with basic tools?
Or are you willing to do a little more work just for fun, to experiment, and save a few $$?
If you want bolt-on ready, Tims S1's are BY FAR the best option. Greg will also do the manifolds for you which is very important.
If you want to do a little work yourself, Panchitos need the bowls blended, which is minor, but I think Panchitos will be a bit on the small side for your displacement. You can also buy as-cast matching panchito manifolds.
If you want to do more stuff on your own, aa502's are great, and correctly sized, but you will need to blend the bowls like the panchito's, and then also take them to your local V8 machine shop and have the valve seats cut. You will need to get manifolds, and do the porting on them yourself with the 502's.
The touched up 502's will end up being the cheapest, and if done right, they will make really good power. The Tims will make the most power, and bolt-on.

I’d recommend Greg at Performance Workshop, but first pull your heads and verify the deck height.
Ideally you’d want .040 and then have Greg size the head chambers to get the compression ratio you need (8.5 or 9:1). |

FYI for the original poster.....Greg Tims is Performance Workshop. Txoval, and I are talking about the same guy who build really good heads.

I’ll echo the recommendation for Greg Tims heads from Performance Workshop.
He starts with a casting that already has 62cc chambers if I’m not mistaken.
Either way Greg will likely recommend a 9:1 max compression for cast pistons. So with the .045 deck which is his safe recommendation for customers he’ll likely build you some heads right around that 62cc number.
I bought a set of 50cc Stage 1 heads originally intended for a 9:1 1835. Later changed direction and sold those ones and purchased a set of 60cc Stage 2 heads for a 9.5:1 2276 with forged pistons.
It may take a couple months or so to get them done because he’s very good and has a big backlog, so get your order in now. |

| I’m running L7 heads on my 2276. They have port work done and the manifolds are port matched. Valves are 44 intakes and 37.5 exhaust. Engine dumped at 170 HP with the belt on. So your engine will gain a lot with new heads |
