Hi Gents
I recently bought a boatload of stuff and I also picked up a Camshaft that was in the box of goodies, I was interested in the cam gear only but was given the cam as well, I don’t think it was run with this cam gear only, but don’t know how to determine whether it is any good for a street engine ?
I have googled it and it seems to be the same as the FK-8 ?. Marked as a Berg 310-08 ? What is the 08 ? Is it any good ?
Thank you

| Yes, it is an FK8 equivallent. The Berg cams are ground straight up versus the FK´s which are typically 3 degrees advanced. The "08" is just the year it is ground. |

Since they are still in business you could’ve contacted them directly.
I dont know why but for some reason i like getting old cams and trying to find info in them. not saying your wrong on this one Alstrup ,but most of the old cams I’ve seen that have ‘08’ or ‘07’ stamped on them is the LC. Which honestly ive never understood why theyd bother because 90% of the vw cams have that LC anyhow. I mean if thier going to stamp any info aside from thier own number, lift & duration would make more sense. Ive seen all of that stamped on some, gets a little cramped for space but pretty cool |

Hi @BFB
Thank you for the reply
Yes you are correct, I could have saved bothering you all with my daft questions, but due to our time differences it is only 07.58 in Orange County as I type. so I thought I would just ask the experts on here for a bit of information about it primarily is it any good for use, as I’m just really still a beginner.
I try to find information on here before I asked, as was trying to decide on a cam to suit my 1776 if I need to replace the cam gear on the W110 that is supposed to be in it. I was just going to use the cam gear and saw the Berg stamping.
Shame it wasn’t a Web163  as that looks to be a contender ? |

| A FK8 is more than the 163. In fact, the FK8 is a really good cam for many applications. Probably one of the best VW cams Engle ever made for streetish types of engines. |

Thank you Torben
I am just looking at worst case scenarios for the 1776 Bergmann Shroud engine, for when it comes out next week.
I was going to try and run it without the belt to try and isolate that it wasn't the Fan in the first instance, but coupled with the fact that it's also also noisy from the Throw out bearing, I'm going to get it on the stand, and work on it.
As I also said, I picked up a random box of goodies, and as well as this Berg Cam there was a set of 1:4.1 rockers in there, and wondering whether the PO was planning to use all this in a build :?: |

You have "ratio rockers" to go with your "ratio rocker" cam. 8)

I wasnt meaning to criticize you for asking , nor that it was a daft question. Hell the more questions we get on here the more there is to read. |

Do some work to those heads, make them right, use the FK8, the 1.4’s, and 9.5:1 in the 1776, and you might end up with a fun little ripper. Probably need 44’s to go with it.
