Question to the bus gurus: when the chrome headlight ring on a bus ('67) is installed correctly, will it be a tight fit or is it a little loose, i.e., should it move up and down, where you can see the lip on the front of the bus it sits in?

Is it possible to get them on the wrong side (reversed), upside down, or just a bad fit? :-k

I do have the rubber gaskets on the assembly but it is pretty loose.

Bus headlight trim rings are specific to the right and left side because they have a small drain hole drilled in them that needs to be facing down. Beetle rings will fit, but you would need to drill the holes yourself.

As far as fit, they should be snug all the way around and pressed against the gasket. It's possible you need new gaskets or even the gaskets may be installed incorrectly. Even correctly installed, a little muscle can move the ring a bit, but there shouldn't be a gap where you can see the metal lip of the sheet metal.

To expand:

A VW ring will fit tightly, an East Asian ring may not.

A correct anchor screw, when used with the required spacer between the anchor tab and the bucket will fit tightly. Without the spacer it will not- because that means you are merely bending the tab.

The correct "T" shape VW headlight-to-body seal is thin and the middle center leg of the "T" comes to a nice thin edge. Some fatter repros will cause you conniptions.

OK, so I took everything everyone said and finally got the headlight rings on tight and sealed. That's been bugging me for awhile!! ](*,)

Needed to clean out the lips that the rings fit on, apply a little more muscle, and install the seals correctly. Amazing what a little bit of knowledge will do!! :roll:
