This has probably been done a million times. But I thought I would share.
I was browsing the isles of Canadian Tire and bumped into a cone filter that is washable and was made for a snowmobile. So I took my original rubber piece that goes from the carb to the oil-bath filter and measured the ID. I found a piece of thin alloy tube in one of my piles that had a OD that matched. I cut a 3" piece of the tubing, slid it in the rubber tube, and clamped it on. I got the snowmobile filter, slid it on the other end of the alloy tubing, and clamped it down.
I realize the oil-bath filter traps dust better, but its pretty messy and requires frequent maintenance to work at its best. This creation I made is washable and should last a good while. Besides, I don't do much dusty driving with my car.
I will post a pic |

Prior to reading the thread below I had heard of what Marc wrote of. It makes sense, so I figured I may as well stick to it.

your set-up looks nice. my ghia was missing all of the stock system. i bought a k&n filter that mount directly to the carb. the filter is washable and has a MILLION MILE GUARANTEE!!!!! also, there are no canadian tire dealerships in southwest oklahoma. |

Can't you mount the cone filter inside the Ghia oil bath housing with a little modification? Here is a picture of a 67 beetle air cleaner I modified to do that. (I know this is the Ghia forum) https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/139603.jpg |
