Anyone own this car now?

My57Oval Fri Jun 26, 2015 10:05 am

Nice car. But check out that tie! Man you could use all that fabric to make a cutom headliner for that Heb! It's "Uge"!

That heb is one of the 2 hebs that Pete Banholzer owned. He sold them both and out of these 2 a nice one was restored... Heb 350 that Bill Collins sold some years ago to a european man in Liechtenstein. It was not white but pale yellow. Pete is still alive and want to own a heb one day...he is in the 80's... That is hard core in heb world. ;-)

Greetings.

Is the Heb rocking one of those funky bug deflectors-

I remember when Walter Russo owned this car in the 1980s. All he did to it was swap out the 1962 taillights for 1950-52 units w/blue dots pressed into the lenses. Otherwise, it was unchanged. Bill Collins swapped out the 1961(?) chassis for a period-correct chassis when he restored it in the early 1990s. This was the red and ivory car that went overseas.

I already had my first Beetle at the time of this event, a '60 sunroof sedan. My father worked at VWoA at the time, but neither of us were passionate for the "vintage" VW scene... I might've already been off to college on the weekend this event took place. His office was in the background building's left wing, top floor, but on the other side overlooking the woods.

These are very similar. I would be surprised if they're not the same car..

Although Heb 76 *did* surprise me in the past.

Same car. Top picture taken mid-1980s, when Walt Russo owned it.

Good to know.

Do you know which and when show it is? The tag in the top photo is 1982 to 1987; I believe.

what years did Mr. Russo own the car?

The inspection sticker is a square, green April 1983-March 1984 issue, expiring (probably) in December 1984 (since MA antique plates expired in December). I don't recognize the show, but it appears to be one of the larger all-makes shows.

Bill Collins acquired the car from Russo sometime in the late 1980s and spent several years acquiring parts to restore it correctly. I think he debuted the finished product at the 1996(?) Terryville Bug-A-Fair. This is the same car he drove cross-country the following year.

I remember seeing that car at then VVWCA meet, when Terry Shuler was prez of the VVWCA. I think it was light yellow. A price tag of $7K is stuck in my head.

I had 2 splits then... a fifty standard and a '50 11G.

If I remember, that Heb was on a 1967 pan... Walt Russo lived in Mass and had some nice early cars... went to visit him, from NJ in 1980...

Maybe it belonged to the picture taker...

Back window is very different and it looks more white or light blue than yellow.

The Id plate is on the right spot... the aufbau plate however should be mounted on the toolchest laying down. Where the aufbauplate is now, there should be the body nr 14-00350.... But why it is covered?
